  • My final adieu...

So I know I haven't been around here in forever...that's because I switched from modding my car a few years ago to just keeping the damn thing running....but I will be saying farewell to the F-body community practically forever.

I will be getting rid of my 1996 Firebird M5 with 107,000 miles on it within the next week. I will be buying a new car in the next few days.

This car has been the bane of my existance over the last few weeks. Besides the large dent in the back 1/4 panel, the unoperable power windows, the cracked dashboard and broken door switches, and the radio's potentiometers that choose their own volume....the exhaust rattles continue, the intake gasket is disintegrated, and the EGR systems is FUBAR.

The engine is rusty (but I've never lived near the coast or in snowy areas where they put salt down) and my faith in this car is crushed. It was fun for a while, but I have grown out of this car. I don't mean to offend anybody (my best friend drives a 2000 Z28) but this car absolutely does not fit my personality any more. It did maybe when I was 18, but now that I'm 24....no.

So, I will be moving on in the automotive world. My fiance and I (that's right, Im getting married!) were originally considering an A4 1.8T w/ quattro, but realized that it just wasn't a good fit for us at this point what with the high cost of maintenance and less than spotless reliability record.

So, I announce (with a slight wince) that I will most likely be driving a 4-door Honda Accord for the next few years until I can fully afford an Audi or something similar.

I know it isn't a performance machine (160hp/160ftlbs isn't horrible though) but I so look forward to so many things:

-Getting in and out the the car without getting a hernia
-Having two adults in the back seat
    -Carrying multiple suitcases
    -Getting over 30mpg
-No scheduled maintenance (besides oil) until 105k miles

So, thanks for the laughs and especially the help. Honest to God I cried when I sold my last car - all the memories involved with the vehicle...what I did in it, who my friends were then, how many bloody knuckles I got changing shocks - so this is obviously tough for me.

And with that, thanks and see ya around

    Adam
    (*K*)

    PS - anyone want to buy a firebird...cheap? ;)

    Re: My final adieu...

Sorry to see you go. I must say that cances are 100% that I'll be upgrading to a V8 once the new Camaro is introduced. Most likely a Convertible too.

I won't knock Honda's because I own one. That thing runs like a clock and get's through the snow 10x's better than my camaro.

Good luck with your wedding and stop by once in a while to say Hi :)

    peace out! :wavey:

You will LOVE your honda and it will give you years and years of reliability, whether you keep up on maintenance or not- it doesn't matter with a honda :D

Are you sure about that? ..........with honda, you have to maintain the car more precisely than american cars...........or else something would always go BAD........i have driven honda accord and for more than 4 years........so, i am not just a domestic guys bashing imports.............. there are things that i liked and things i didn't liked .......... those cars are very sensitive.........they will only accept oem stealership parts..........everytime i put in anything other, 3 months later i had to fix it again........ A/C performance wasn't like any f-body i owned ..........hated whinning 4 cyl........ i hated high rpm whinning on highway.......i live in a flood zone and they put their computer really low to the ground ............after spending all the money to keep my dads car in tip-top shape, one lousy 10" flood ruined my dads car..........it was donated to a friend of mine .............anyway, things that i liked were reliability and comfortness.......... it will always take you to your destination............but i think what you like is completely a personal matter ............

Well we haven't replaced much on our 335k 87 accord 5 speed and it has missed a few oil changes I think the longest was like 56,000 miles on a single oil change. Both my Dad and I rap the hell out of the thing to, its a beast!!!

drove an audii tt quatro and really liked it. I'm a domestic guy who doesn't like small cars and what.... but man that car was sharp. Real user friendly and ergonamically correct for anyone. Congrats on your marriage, but I can't congrats to you on selling your car.... because when a f-body is sold, and angel looses its wings!

Another one bites the dust....I'm sure whoever buys it next will give it an obnoxious Maaco paint job, cut up the wheel wells, and slap on some fugly 22s. That seems to be what's happening to a lot of the older f-bodies I see around, strange.

I'm 22 and not growing out of the Camaro anytime soon. Good luck with your new car and congratulations.

                          Haha!

I had to reply one more time for that one...I completely forgot about our love affair.

Here's what we ended up getting:

                          (2004 LX model with 10,500 miles - certified pre-owned)

160hp/160tq, 24mpg city, 34 highway - over 550 miles on one tank of 87 octane. The color is called "Graphite Pearl"

Now to start modding....just kidding. All I want to do is tint the windows and maybe get some alloy wheels - something like split 5 spokes...nothing ricey though, don't worry.

nice clean car. Good luck with it!

I'll be replacing my 97 Ford Escort with a recent model Toyota Corolla in the next couple of weeks. I still can't knock domestic cars though...my Escort has been the most reliable car I've ever owned. For the past 3 years its started up every morning, whether its -40 or 95 degrees out, and I haven't paid a cent in maintenance outside of oil changes, brake pads, plugs and wires...not to mention i do about 40 miles of stop-and-go paper route with it every morning year round.
