    Re: ticket for no seatbelt!!?

OK, i am not going to get too far into this, but I am a strong believer in seatbelts. i wont go anywhere without one on. I am a firefighter and i have been to several accidents, and the trend i notice is the people that wear seatbelts get out at least alive and usually in pretty good shape (depending on what happened to the car) and i have seen bodies wrapped around poles just because their lazy *** decided they didnt want to wear a seatbelt, and you know what, they didnt pay a ticket, but they paid with their lives. i will only say this once, SEATBELTS SAVE LIVES, its not worth risking it, dont be a lazy piece of ****, just put on the ****ing seatbelt, it cant do anything but help you, and it cant even help you if you dont put it on.

Yay, another thread in which I get to state my completely useless opinion :D ! I think the seatbelt tickets are very stupid. Yes, I've gotten one :P . When I got mine, they didn't put points on your license. My cousin just got two, and he got 2 points for every ticket, but they lowered the price of the ticket a whole $5. I never even thought of the insurance people dealing with it, that's a good idea. The government shouldn't enforce seatbelt wearing. If the people don't want to wear it, then let them kill themselves. It's like jumping off a bridge; the bungee chord isn't necessary, but it helps alot :D

You know i had a paramedic friend who said that he saw a remarkable amount of people who were ejected from the car in an accident survive. He said the reason was because they were drunk, and somehow having slow reactions and not "tensing" when they went flying through the windshield somehow helped their survival chances. So there ya go: If you decide not to wear your seatbelt, drive drunk!

well then you dont watch much tv when youre in st louis, cause they constantly run commercials saying they will pull you over for seatbelt violations.

honestly, why not wear it? i dont get it. you wont get a ticket, and you wont die in a car accident. its a win/win

really though, the whole seat belt point isnt worth discussing. its one of those clear cut issues in life. if you dont wear one, youre a fool, end of discussion.

its not about protecting my own life. Its about being FORCED to protect my own life. Really, its just another excuse for a cop to pull so he has a "justifiable cause" that he searched your car. Slowly but surely we trade away every little bit of liberty we have for the illusion of security. If i die cuz i didnt wear my seatbelt, thats MY problem. Not the governments. Me driving w/o a seatbelt wont affect anyone but me. My flying body wont cause lung cancer in standers-by, and it wont cause me to kill other people for money like narcotics can... its a PURELY personal thing. the government has no business telling me what i can and cant do with my body. The funny thing is, usually the people in favor of these laws are the same people who also claim "freedom of choice" for a woman and her unborn child...
You guys are right, its stupid, its easy and its painless to put on your belt. Like i said, i do because i'd like to live for a long while, but if i forget, I dont want Big Brother taxing my a$$ for so they can buy another $400 toilet seat.

For you, this may be the case. Now let's say you have 5 kids, no health insurance, and no life insurance. Who ends up footing the bill then? Taxpayers. In this case, you would affect a lot of people.

Personally, Id rather pay a few more dollars a week to know I can still do whatever I want to do than to save a little money and watch my freedoms get systematically stripped away from me.

This is getting off topic, but the govt is going to tax however much it wants to tax, and they are going to appropriate that money where they see fit. And if Sen. John Edwards gets office, you might actually see raised taxes and nationalized healthcare, making your arguement a pointless one.

If you don't like it call your representatives, campaign, and vote. Short of that buy up enough land to build your own road system and do as you please.

I agree with you 100% on principal, although you're incorrect about cause: a cop has to see something illegal (drugs, alcohol, a weapon, etc.) in order to have cause to search your car. Most of the time, they just ask and the driver consents, not knowing he/she technically has the right under the law to refuse. I can find the legal precedent if anyone wants to dispute me on this.

You're right though, it's my problem if I don't wear a seatbelt, not the government's. These kinds of laws set a bad precedent that should not be followed. I don't need big brother to protect my ***, I've got that covered just fine.

ok so maybe wrong thinking on that, but i'm just trying to get across that unless i'm harming (or potentially harming) someone else, i should be left the hell alone. aint the police fault, they gotta do their jobs, but the gov't gets outta control...

I have a black car with black interior. I wear a lot of black cloths. In the last year, I've been pulled twice for no seat beat, because they "didn't see it."

Hm, i've heard somewhere tho that if you decline to have your car searched then that gives the cops "probable cause" because you're acting "suspicious"...

You are willing to cough up a few dollars per week. Not everyone has that luxury. If we do have a national health care system, look to see more laws like this to keep the cost/taxes down.

Personally, I would like a choice to wear my seatbelt and have laws protecting children. I am just providing the argument for the laws (the same argument applies to helmet laws).

I always wear my seatbelt anyway. I didn't use to until I owned a Wrangler and used to drive around topless and doorless. I got so used to it, I feel funny w/o it.

Yeah, if it if for a BETTER healthcare plan in this country, I wouldn't have any problem with an increased tax hike, but that is a different arguement for a different post.

Like I said, it more or less comes down to a comfort thing for me, but for the most part I usually wear it. Ive had my license taken away from me too many times already to even mess around anymore, unless again it just bothers me too much to wear it.
