  • Police pit manuaver soon to be illegal?

I just heard this on the radio today. The Supreme Court outlaw pit manauver because a man who is now paralyzed.

According to the radio the man was driving recklessly and led the police in a chase for almost half of a day's worth.

A cop got an ok to pit him and he hit a pole or a tree. His car was totalled and he was left paralyzed.

This man has no criminal record and he wasn't drunk either. He was just having a bad day.

But still in my opinion, he chose to run from the cops. I think it was right for the cop to use that manuaver. Or else he might have paralyzed or killed someone else.

Any thoughts on this? If you find the article, plz. post it.

serves him right. waaaaaaaaaaaaa he had a bad day, well.. looks like it got worse then. if you act like an idiot, you deserve everything you get.

as far as im concerned let the cops do what they have to, if the a$$hole would have just pulled over he wouldnt be sitting in a wheel chair.

I have bad days but that doesn't make it ok for me to drive recklessly and put other people in danger. I'm upset they didn't do it first thing when he ran.

Yeah, I don't think he's got a leg to stand on. I mean he was running from the cops, he got what he deserved. Bad day or not, don't ruin some innocent bystanders day also.

            Ouch!

If you run from the cops then they should be able to hit you before you hit someone else. I don't have an issue with it.

the point of it..how it would work out if it was perfectly executed, is that the car will end up one-two lanes to the right, facing the other direction. It stalls out the car, and keeps them from going on anymore. If it's done perfectly in the perfect situation, it ends up fine.. but the cop can't control how fast the guy is going or how he's postioned, so it can easily end up in a wreck.

                      WRONG.

SC, even the liberals are behind the police on this one. He was a clear danger to the public.

the moment you decide to run... you are saying that you will not give up without a fight and you don't care to put others in danger. He got injured... so what... if i had a bad day and hit his family running from the cops then lets see what he thinks.

In AZ there is only a few agencies allowed to follow pursuit, due to public saftey, policy is if the vehicle does not pull over and you call it in, the Sgt. will tell you to discontinue pursuit , which means you have to stop your patrol car and turn around and go the opposite direction. The logic behind this is they don't want the violator running red lights and stop signs hitting people or other vehicles. But if it known the person in the vehicle has committed a violent crime such as murder etc. then you can pursue. But for a car thief or someone joy riding they will not. I think DPS, Phoenix P.D. , and Sheriffs Dept, are the only ones in their Dept policy which allow them to pursue vehicles.

I have heard things like this. Something along the lines of they can only pursue if the suspect is known to have a lethal weapon

I believe in KY if the cop thinks that the suspect is reaching too high of speeds in heavily populated areas then they will cut pursuit in hope the suspect will slow down.
