    Re: Went for a drive....

Wow, those are some nice roads. Looks like a good run for a bike. Makes me want to ride now, but I think it will be a little too slick in the slush... :p

Hey you're moving to MA right? Where at? More West or East? I'll bet the Berkshires have a lot of roads like that. I do all my riding in the Adirondacks and theres a lot of roads like that, so possibly the Berkshires will have some decent roads too? Maybe not all hope is lost? You really gotta ride up the mountains to get a view like that though.

I don't have any pics without the bikes in them so, the best I can do:

Fireball, you inspired my to order two of those old school fender emblems. I got the 69-69 fender emblems. They look so good.

Nice pictures, I wish I lived somewhere with that kind of scenery. It's kind of dull and dusty around here.

those were my old driving grounds. my treadmarks on the curves around the golf course (la granada i think is the road) are probably still there. i used to race friends from la costa, through rancho, to the golf course parking lot (or mcdonalds on via de la valle). rancho santa fe gave me the best adrenaline rushes i ever had (to this day). when i go back home to visit my parents, i always take a drive through there, but these days it seems like you have to take the drive at night to avoid traffic.

See this is fast becoming the problem around here... i'm always trying to find new backroads that are less travelled, because most of the best roads are so highly frequented that driving to quickly would be too risky. Best examples here would be Highway 9 and Skyline Boulevard, which Jack can attest to. Course the flip side is that a lot of the less trafficked roads are too small and waaay too bumpy.. so really its a delicate balance. Hick's Road, Felton/Sierra Road, and Mt. Hamilton Road are decent, but suffer in many places from poor road maintenence (Hicks road used to be all but perfect, until last spring when landslides destroyed part of it :().

I actually went for another drive today. Went all the way up Mt. Hamilton (thats like 20 something miles up the wigglies) to Lick Observatory for what has to be the best view on the west coast... pretty amazing. I brought the camera, but unfortunately i took two pictures on the way up and then the battery died  Nevermind, i bought some postcards and brought some snow down with me (which is now in the freezer).
