Re: some people just need a good bytch slapping
I celebrate MANY events that led to the deaths of many, like Memorial Day for example. But what confuses me is that I cannot for the life of me see how anything Jamestown settlers did was premeditated. You say in a democracy that the majority does not always rule, I can tell you this, in THIS democracy, the majority NEVER rules. And it doesn't have to be a cultural majority, it can be ANY majority, including economic, cultural, political, etc. HISTORY has told us that most majorities in this country are silenced by the minority, for example economic minority can and does have control over the majority, with the minority being the upper 1% of the rich, and the majority being the poor.
Slippery-slope arguements? You act as though this has never happened before. And you're calling me ignorant...LOL. Take for example big tobacco vs. the public. When the public learned that cigarettes were actually deadly, the lawsuits haven't stopped against big tobacco. I think the last major suit against big tobacco, they lost and are now having to pay out over $28 BILLION dollars. Now imagine that happening on a governmental scale. You piss one person off, and they get away with it, there will be more coming out of the woodwork. And the lines of people with grievances against the gov't will get exponentially longer. Don't be so typical to think that it would happen overnight either. Thats a dumbass comment from a dumbass person in college who hasn't tasted what its like to really struggle and see that this whole topic is utter BS.
You mentioned the Holocaust twice in this thread for a reason, to compare one to the other, you wouldn't have mentioned it if it wasn't to compare.
Whats the harm in ascending to their wishes? Simple, I do it now, I will do it again down the road, and again, and again, and again, till I can't celebrate anything. No one will be able to breathe in this country when that happens, and like I have pointed out already, it is happening.
But what the whole problem with this country is something that you pointed out to me, GROUPS. Everyone is associated with one group or another, either ethnic, racial, political, economic, and its KILLING this country. When will people learn that working together and accepting things as they are at times, and knowing when things need change? Has this country gotten so divided by factions that we no longer have the balls, guts, chivalry, brains, and good sense to set their personal beliefs aside for the greater good of the whole? When is crap like this going to end? When will everyone stop bending over for the next person beliefs, and bend over for EVERYONES greater good? Know when? NEVER, because people like you, Camarorulz, would rather bicker about the rights of the few compared to the needs of the many.
YOU FAIL. Get your eyes out of a textbook and look at the real world. Something must change, if it doesn't, it WILL split this country apart, not now, maybe not even 50 years from now, but it will happen. Maybe if you put your greed, self-righteousness, and pride to the side, you will see my point. BTW, I have two words for you: Pussified Democrat.

Of course from the typical point of view, people aren't deliberately celebrating murder, but it's amazing you fail to see the insult in celebrating an event that led to the deaths of many. History is largely based on perspective, and maybe from your perspective the events of Jamestown weren't characterized by invasions and murder, but your perspective is not the only one that matters. In Democracy, the majority does not always rule, minorities have rights as well. If you don't believe this, you're ignorant and need to read Federalist #10.
BTW: Don't make slippery-slope arguments. They just don't work: simply because one concession is made doesn't mean the whole world is going to come tumbling down. By that viewpoint, nothing can EVER happen in moderation
wasn't saying the killing of Native Americans equates with the Holocaust, I was using the example to illustrate a point: it's disrespectful to celebrate events that led to murder.
Again, you fail to see, as I pointed out, that Congress wasn't violating your rights by this at all. You can celebrate whatever the hell you want.
What is the harm is acceding to their wishes, if they perceive this celebration to be an insult? As Jefferson once said in reference to religion, "it neither breaks my leg nor picks my pocket.." This doesn't affect you. You just want the country to be run only according to your viewpoints, without considering the voices or wishes of other groups that have just as many rights as you do.

You throw around the word "ignorant" a lot, and I can play the same game.
