i hate michigan. i had h&r block do my taxes today (never again.. for 250 bucks i'll damn well sit down and learn how to this crap myself) and even tho i've claim 0 dependants all year, i STILL owed money to michigan. federal gave me back money but regardless.

i guess i'm just sick of seeing 1/4 of my paychecks go to the government and getting the bare minimum out of it. i think for the amount of money thats paid by the american people, we should have one KICKA$$ society. instead, my rims are all dented from potholes, school systems are mediocre (and for the amount of money we throw at them they should be #1 in the world, instead we're like #10), joblessness is HIGH in michigan, i still dont go out after dark when i'm at school in Flint cuz of the risk of getting shot, and police are more concerned with me doing 5 mph over than the fact i got my $300 radio stolen a year and a half ago, we're wasting money hand over fist in Iraq (not even the military, they've been sending money and its been disappearing, read the news) and to cap it all off: the huge amount that i pay for FICA... yeah, i'll never see a damn dime of it. so essentially i get to pay old people for not dying. real cool FDR... thanks.

EDIT: i swear on my life, if we EVER get nationalized healthcare, i'll move to England or Austrailia or somewhere where you're the only person paying for your defects.

first, use tax SW. It's cheap and easy.

second, for the bad news, you pay over 1/2 your salary in taxes after you figure in gas tax, sales tax, booze tax, cigaretts, cable, and cell phone "fees".

I agree, between local, county, state, and Federal gov'ts we spend way to may too much on crap/pork barrel projects. It's a joke at how much we pay for taxes. :rant: :mad:

fairtax.org Not only would that eliminate the loopholes in the system that only those with good accounts know about, but illegal aliens wouldn't be getting money tax-free. Consumption tax, I think it's a great idea. Something needs to be done. Not to mention Social Security. Eugh, what a headache.

not to mention downsizing our prison system so that 5000 prisoners are going free in a few months at the same time they're laying off state troopers.. as if having 2 cities in the top 10 for homocides wasnt good enuf, jennifer granholm is just the worst governor EVER and somehow she got re-elected. i'm moving outta this state as soon as i can.

Computer tax programs make it pretty easy for most people. I used to work at a tax preparer. Hope you didn't take the "Instant Refund". Total rip on the fee.

Before Social Security millions of older Americans lived lives of miserable poverty, like not having enough to eat. The decline of the family makes the situation potentially worse now. The system does need fixing, which could be easily done. Remove the cap on taxable income, and slant the benefits a bit more to the people who really need them. Done. If you make less than $97,500 a year (individually, not family total) removing the cap doesn't affect you. If you do, you can afford it.

Both England and Australia have national health care, as does most every advanced country except us. England has problems, Australia seems to do it better. Our lack of a national health care system raises costs and puts us at a severe competitive disadvantage in the global economy. Once again, the task would be to do it right.

It's a new world economically, and we need to make some changes to succeed. Or we'll go the way that all great powers have historically gone, downhill. Recommended book: The World is Flat.

Holy ****. Every time I hear FUD like this I want to explode. WTF makes everyone think that higher salaries equate to tons of expandable income? :rant: Between a mortgage, car payments, tons of school loans for many years I lived WORSE than people who made less than $97K a year. $97K is not all that high in some areas - so a flat number like that does not work.

This I agree with. My wife is reading this book right now and tells me it is enlightening. I am looking forward to reading it if/when I can scavenge the time.

gotta love texas, no state income tax, pretty good schools, decent law enforcement, decent roads sales tax is the same as it was for me in Louisiana so no net effect there, and the politicians can't understand why young people are leaving Louisiana by the bus load after getting a degree (if not before). All I have to say is do a search on monster.com and that will answer your question.

oops looks like I got off subject, yeah taxes suck!, but we still pay less than the socialist countries!

can't base taxes on a dollar amount!! that varies by location, $97k in dallas and $97k San Francisco are totally different and this changes all the time!

One of the reasons why other countries seem to have programs that work is their lack of corporate intervention. The US has a large amount of corporate corruption and intervention that is allowed to influence the govt. Until that is put to an end or minimized there will be no nationalized healthcare or any other nationalized programs that work. We still are living in one of the best countries but the money is managed poorly and spent incorrectly. If the people in charge were more efficent and accurate with the spending on a local, state and federal level we would probably see a decline in the amount of taxes required to function. just my .02
