  • You'll never guess...

So...on my way to get gas at BP...I'm cruising down commerce blvd. at about 25-30. Why 25-30 in a 45? It's deer country. Lo and behold, this BIG Motha' comes out ( male deer or whatever, with antlers like 3-4 feet big. ) pops out. I hit the brakes and serve since it's a pretty big road and no one is on it. I hit it with my bumper at an angle and break it's leg and it vanishes. I pull off into a lot nearby and do a damage report.

    Damage report:
    None! =o

I popped my hood to see if everything is in place, nothing is out of place it seems. When it's daylight out I'll recheck, but it scooted my fender just enough for the door to rub, but that was a problem before.

At worst, I think my bumper may be off alignment a bit. But I can't tell. oh, there's this water residue on my bumper now. ugh. It's not blood.

    More later today.

Good job of saving the car. If it was me, I would have freaked out, accidentally hit the gas instead of the brake and splatter that beast all over my windshield, like a little bug :D

If the road was so wide.. and you were going slow... and you knew the deer was coming then how'd you hit it? Must have the slowest reactions in the world...

                      Hahah, :D

Reminds me of a program i saw on the death of James Dean. They figured out that he was doing 75 mph when he hit Mr. Turnipseed, and naturally could resist the "This just goes to show that speed kills. If James Dean had been following the speed limit then he would have have lived, blah blah blah" complete with computer rendered scene of Turnipseed missing Dean's Porsche. And i'm sitting here going "Well hang on a minute.. if he'd been going 95mph he wouldn't have crashed either!"

4 o'clock in the morning and the side of the streets are trees and you can't see anything? this deer was faaaast. lol. You best bet I slowed down even more after I hit it, enough for if I hit the brakes I'd stop.

Doesn't help either that I need new brake pads all around, almost all of them are metal to metal, that's why I don't speed or anything. rofl...safety for the firebird 1st, then my safety 2nd.

That's my theory. The slower I go, the longer I'm on the road and the higher chance I have of seeing a deer. Now I always go 70-75 down this road that is infamous for deer late at night, just because I know I will only be on it 5 minutes max before I need to turn. Instead of 10-15 minutes if I go slow. Plus, with my winter car, if I hit a deer I'm going right through it. Nothing will stop this car, its 5000lbs of pure metal.
