  • Time for a new phone

Well, my phones finally crapped out on me. I had a Nextel i736 (Jeff Gordon edition) since 2002. In '05, I bought an i560 from a friend for $20. I treated that phone like ****, and it worked perfectly for a solid 2 yrs. It crapped out on me in the middle of January. I switched back to my old i736, thinking no big deal about it. Well, I was working tthe other night and got soaked, along with my phone. It turns on and works, but 3/4 of the time, the speaker doesn't work so I can't hear it ringing or anything, it'll randomly lightup, or not light up when I need it to, and randomly shuts down. So, I picked up the mail today, and I've got something from Sprint saying I'm eliglble for a free phone! I'm like, "Sweet, New phone!" Got to looking, and Sprint has some good deals right now on phones, however, Nextel does not (kinda wierd since Nextel is owned by Sprint). I can get a nice Sprint phone for $10 (after mail-inrebates of course), or I can go with a nice Nextel phone for........$150. Big difference. Anyways, with the way Nextel's been treating me lately (dunno if it's my phone or my service, but I've been missing and losing alot of calls), I'm thinking of switching. I kinda wanted to go with Sprint since they're with Nextel so it would be an easy switch over, and back if I wanted to. Only thing is, I'm afraid I'm going to miss the DC part of Nextel. I live on that :P I know Sprint has their verison of it, but I don't think it works with Nextel's. Anyways, I'm torn between sticking with my current POS phone, getting a Motorola KATANA ($50), a Samsung A900M ($10), or a Nextel i850 ($150). Any suggestions? I was hoping for a camera and MP3 phone (KATANA and A900M are), but not pay out the butt.

^^ what he said, i have the v3m, only complaint i have is slow shutter speed on camera compared to other phones. Its actually durable, i spilled hot chocolate on mine, and my gf drops hers a couple of times.

Considering their both pretty much one in the same now it doesn't matter. If you have a lot of info then stick with nextel as they use a sim card sprint doesn't.

See, I didn't know that. That's kinda what I want, pros/cons of each company. I've liked Nextel since I've had it, but it's all I've ever had. My dad has Verizon and it seems like he ALWAYS has full, or almost full reception. Main thing I like about the Nextels is the walkie-talkie feature. I use it alot, and it's alot quicker than calling, but is it worth the extra $100 to keep it? If you guys recommend a different company, let me know.

there again a lot of companies besides these two are starting to go with a walkie talkie like feature, some are better than others. I'm with T-Mobile and got my phone and plan through a website that I of course can't remember now. Long sotry short depending on the company and plan you go with they will actually pay you instead of you paying them. I got $50 for choosing a razr and the specific plan they had setup. If I think of the website I'll let you know.

i have no complaints about verizon. i always have great reception, and i like my plan. my only complaint about the razr is that my battery isnt really strong... but i dont mind charging it every night.

the sim cards for a nextel are a huge benefit. the people i know with nextel usually have a little worse reception than I do in my area.. I have verizon by the way..

i had a roomate in college who had sprint.. he hated them. horrible reception, and they kept screwing up his bills. and he'd always have to be on teh phone with their customer service for hours figuring stuff out..

OK. I guess I'm gonna see if I can ditch Nextel and join my Dad with Verizon. Time to go phone shopping again :D
