Hey everyone. I need help with ny computer. I dont know if anyone can help but here is my problem. My computer keeps on restarting it self. I have a VAIO. When I turn it on it shown the VAIO logo then the hewlette pakerd logo then it goes to a black screen with a blinking cursour. Then it goes to a screen where it explains that the computer is acting up and how to start it. it has the options of sfe mode, last known good configuration and start normally. i have tried each option and every time it goes to the load screen and that just restarts. It doesnt even reach the computer screen. I do have a restart disk that would reset everything to the original setting but it doesnt want to read it. I know I may have not explained everything all that well but any suggestions would be great. If you have any questions please feel free to ask. If worst come to worst I would have to take it to get fixed, which I dont want to do since I dont have money to spend on it. Thanks in advaced to who ever replies back. later

sounds like a corrupt Boot Loader to me. I have no idea how to fix it though, sorry. Maybe someone else can help? -

I think he's right, what you can try doing is if you still have your windows install cd, put that in, and boot to it. and if you go through the processes there is an option to repair your windows installation, that might help ya.

Format the drive and start over. If that doesn't fix it, you either have a hard drive going bad or a hard drive controller going bad. Hard drive will run you about $100-150, hard drive controller means you will need a new laptop if your current one isn't under warranty.Comment

Listen to the hard drive, if it makes a loud click as soon as it reboots odds are the hard drive is screwed. The man is dead right on this one. I will NEVER EVER EVER own a Sony again. My first Laptop was a VAIO. The thing was a lemon if there ever was one. I replaced it last year with an HP. Sounds to me like your Vaio wants to be an HP too.Originally posted by Fireball27
Either way, it does sound like the Boot Loader or something. You didn't try to modify your loading screen or something related to startup did you? If you can find somebody who has a similar system, you can replace the corrupted file with the correct file. I have a program that runs off of a CD and gives you access to all your files on the hard drive without actually using Windows. If you're interested, send me a message or something. oy! vaios are great computers. why else would they use them in casino royale?? my whole family owns vaios, 2 laptops and a desktop. my laptop is old and heavy, but a great computer.

If the drive isn't fully dead, you can get Norton Ghost. It takes an image of the drive. If you get a new drive, you can load that image onto the new drive and your computer will be just as it was before.
If you have a boot disc and the computer isn't reading it, when booting the computer, pay attention to everything that comes up on the screen. It should say F12 for BIOS or Setup, hit that F# when it comes up. You can change the boot order in the BIOS. Change it to CD-Rom or USB, whatever your software is loaded onto.
