I don't suspect you'll be laughing when all of your friends are getting 600 miles to 0 gallons of fuel with an electric car.

Canada's oil is tied up in the tar sands. Extracting the oil from the soil is horrible for the environment in terms of the energy that goes into it and polution that results. It isn't nearly as cost effective as importing from the Middle East or South America.

        lololololol...

#1....biochemical engineers (including many of my professors) are already in development of synthetic fuels... so we won't have to worry about it... companies such as valero are already adding non-fossil-fuel fuels to gasoline in order to drive down prices... ethanol is a good alternative... although it doesn't burn with the same amount of combustive energy as gasoline... it's dang cheap... and you can grow it...

#2....technology is catching up to pollution... there are many things being developed that will counter pollution when it becomes such a horrible problem... which will not be in the even remote future... at least to the point that earth is "uninhabitable"...

        #3.... don't call me ignorant...

          yay

I'm not worried about global warming. It'll happen regardless of what humans are doing, so we might as well suck it up and enjoy the weather :)

I guess you're not ignorant...you know some things that I'll have to take your word for. But a lot of the things you speak of aren't here yet and I think that our problem is upon us now, not in 20 years when these technologies may possibly come to fruition.

But hey, if what you say is true we can just forget about the environment and wait till technology saves us all. Solid plan!

Isn't that the only option we have? technology is really the only way out, and i dont exactly have a diesel car to dump fry oil into...

I completely agree that technology is the way out, in addition to reduction of exploitation of resources and attempts to limit polution from current technology. For example, a good proportion of the members of this board have gutted or removed their catalytic converters, and for what? 2-3 HP, if that? I doubt they've considered the implications for the environment.

I don't want to pick fights, but its that kind of attitude that has to be changed...the kind of attitude where when someone suggests we should buy electric cars to save the environment they get laughed at (for example, a few posts ago).
