well.. i am an experenced rider and i can tell you i gas the hell out of a couple of the bikes when i ride them ...... and is just annoying for other people i am sure... but fun for me...

...but revving a bike is alot more fun, and diffrent then reving a car, but if you live around harleys and they seem like they cannot ride... thats probually true... lol

Lol, I can understand the part about having fun when you're riding. This isn't what I'm talkin about though. They really do just seem like bad drivers. Like they don't know when their clutch is gonna engage. When they're gassing it, they aren't revving it up very far at all, like a 1/4 throttle twitch. I feel kinda embarrased for the guys riding them sometimes. Honestly imagine the last guy you saw driving a Mustang with a manual pulling out at a stop sign (another common annoyance around here) That's what I get from it.

Ok, so just a random question but: Whats the deal with bikes? How come they're allowed to have the loudest exhaust this side of the space shuttle, and yet some fat man will give you grief over a car exhaust thats still not even as loud as someone yelling? Are bikes exempt from noise pollution laws?

Also, whats up with the rubber trousers? How do they not stew alive in their own juices?

they also are high polluters (compared to cars in proportion to engine size) and you'd think they would get better gas mileage.. bikes are all about madness though. what the hell is up with the R1? 180hp on a 380lb (dry weight without driver) bike? ok so with a 175lb driver and another 25lb for gold chains and gasoline, that's still 180hp for 580lb for 3.2hp per pound. if they could make street legal cars that put out that kind of power we would be able to buy 1,200hp camaros.

I was talking to my dad about this on the way to the car show today. There were a bunch of harleys there and i noticed them doing that. My dad said it was something to do with the fact that they're carbureteded (sp?) and tuned for performance, so they don't idle smoothley and they have to keep blipping the throttle so the bike doesn't stall.

Not really, you have to look at the intent behind the law as well. If you're in a state that doesn't have emissions tests, then the entire reason behind writing a ticket would be for too much noise. What other reason would there be? If you have an up-to-date inspection sticker, then you've passed emissions. If you don't, you get a ticket for that.

Bikes should be held to the same standard, regardless of what you call the violation, "improper equipment," "noise pollution," whatever. That didn't negate my argument, you missed the point by focusing on semantics.

Fireball, the only problem you have is you living in that communist state of yours. Can't own anything, do anything, have anything that would be even the SLIGHTEST bit of a problem to your own being or someone elses. You can't smoke, have a loud car, own a gun, or chew Trident. You wanna loud exhaust, MOVE THE HELL OUT OF CALI. That state SUCKS when it comes to laws, they have too many of them and are over-oppresive.

Never in the 26 years I have lived in Indiana have I ever seen anyone pulled over for a noise-pollution problem. I have my Firebird up and down the street in front of the fire station/police HQ in Speedway with an open header, never got any problems. Harley's should have some sound to them, thats the whole point of one. If you wanted a chromed out cruiser that was large, but quiet, Harley owners would have bought a Valkerie. Nothing prettier in this world than a Harley with drag pipes turning that light gray/blue from the heat of the exhaust, making a ton of noise.

As much as I do like HD's, I couldn't own a bike with a carb. Fuel Injection is the way to go nowadays, and most of the newer HD's have FI, the older ones that have the value and better looks IMO have carbs.

My GSXR was carbed....last yr for it....a little more hesitant but still fun as hell to ride...when u move to mass fireball im gonna make sure i buy another bike and put a full exhaust on it...then ill come find where u live and just ride around in first at 14k right next to u...itll b so loud i wont b able to hear ur whining...but thats just me being me...

I have friends who've gotten tickets for having a nitrous bottle sitting on the driveshaft hump. The ticket read "Improper Equipment."
I have friends that have gotten tickets for driving on public streets with slicks (don't ask me why). The ticket read "Improper Equipment."
I have friends who've gotten tickets for having a loud exhaust. The ticket read "Improper Equipment."
Getting a ticket for "Improper Equipment" is just that...when the cop issues the ticket, s/he has observed some form of improper equipment on the vehicle when the ticket is written...after all, doesn't take much to take a stock car, get it inspected, then completely mod the piss out of it the next week; the state is not going to track you down and scrape your inspection sticker off if you mod your car after it's been inspected.

Now, I'm not saying you can't get a noise pollution citation with an automobile (ex: blaring music from an aftermarket stereo), but when it comes strictly to exhaust systems, that's not going to be the case.

It's not "semantics" because the terms have different meanings and implications and cannot be used interchangeably

actually in most cases they aren't "tuned for performance" from the factory they will idle all day long pretty quietly but alot of guys tweak the carb to lower the idle which gives them more lope and makes them seem a little louder when you twist the throttle. The problem got so bad that if you turn the idle down too far it voids the warranty due to lower idle dropping the oil pressure so much that it causes damage.
