  • Why I modify my V6

Every time someone asks me "why didn't you just swap an LS1 into your car instead of having all that work done on your V6?" I become more and more determined to make the V6 faster. Herre are the reasons I modify my six instead of just doing a swap:

    1. The work I've had done so far doesn't equal the amount of money it would take to swap in an LS1/T56 combo, and by the time I get there, it will be just as fast as a stock LS1 anyway.

    2. EVERYONE at the track in a Camaro is running an LT1 or LS1. What's so great about having a stock LS1 that runs 13.5? Big f-ing deal, you have a stock engine. A V6 that runs better than average times is far more impressive than a stock LS1 that runs average times. Ignorant people don't understand this, they just look at the bottom line. If I was going to do a V8 swap, I'd at least want to buy heads and cam for it so it runs faster than a stock motor, but that just runs up the cost more.

    3. I got my car when I was 17, and I loved it. I don't think ANY 17-year-old kid should get a car as fast as an LT1 or LS1. I was proud of what I had, and happy with it, but so many people said something along the lines of "too bad it's not a V8" or "the V6s are so slow, they have no power." I despise jealous f-ing douchebags, and have been trying to prove ever since that my V6 can kick ***. A$$holes like these partially ruined my experience of getting a nice car. If the Camaro didn't come with a V8 engine, those people would not be saying things like that.

    4. I'm just ****ing stubborn! Don't tell me my car sucks, or that it will never be fast, because I'm just going to set out to prove you wrong.

I will be a member of the 13-second NA club by the end of the summer, hopefully, and that's good enough to beat stock LT1s. I can't ****ing wait, because then it will be blower time. This message is partially directed to everyone who is buying V8s: every year there are a bunch that trade in, and hey, if that's what you want, go for it, but that's easy. An LS1 or LT1 that runs mid-13s is a dime a dozen, but a V6 that runs 13s is amazing. I will not give up on this motor. It will run fast, it will be reliable, and it won't need 4.10 gears. With some DRs, a new exhaust system, and a track that doesn't run slow as hell, it will come very close to hitting that goal. A fast V6 is unique, a fast V8 is par for the course.

I hate it when people tell me what I should do with my car.

    good list

When I was gonna build up my 6er, lots of people told me "you got a V6, why bother"

funny when this comes from people with 80's V8's that think just because it's a V8 it has at least 300hp

u prolly have a 3.8 i had a 3.4 ....i think thats a good enoguh excuse for me to get a 13 second v8 ....geting a 3.4 to run 13 is just way to expensive...... and not worth it so i bought an lt1 :-p .... and dont worry its not stock...i gota few things done...and im going nitrous soon.... i understand the v6 thing though...but the 3.4 isnt worth it...if i had a 3.8 it wouldnt be as bad

I agree with you Oi Bird. The 3.4 is not a very responsive engine, to put it diplomatically for all those 3.4 guys on here. However, I was more referring to the ignorant people that automatically assume that because it's a V6 it can't be fast.

I'm not going to bash any of the 3.4 guys, though, even though they have "fits" as someone put it in a recent thread, to get into mid-15s. Everyone on here that knows anything knows that a 3.4 that runs mid or low-15s is an impressive piece of work.

I love my six. It has got plenty of power, and I'm sure it will be fun when i can beat stock Lt1s and LS1s with my six, but I still want a V8 if nothing more than for the sound...

Re: Why I modify my V6

Yeah. I'm with bibber here. I'm lazy and I want a cheap and easy way into the 10-11's. Not to bash on your thread or anything, but the point of the v8 is that if you put the same amount of money into the v8 as your v6, you can go that much faster. Thats what I got the WS6 for. I want to go faster with the same money. Not saying that v6's can't be quick or anything or that v6's are ****, I still love mine and I still have it too, but I just use it for a backup car when my WS6 breaks or until I sell it.

I mean, this is my whole point. I ran a 13.41@102.81 bone stock. I put a SLP lid on it. A lid. Still have the paper filter in the darn thing. Guess what? I now run a 13.25 @ 104.97. .2 with only a lid. Where else can you get that? Thats where I am comming from. I understand that fast v6's are hard to do and they take a lot of work, but I just want to damn go fast. :\

I'm waiting for the final showdown between dmw319 and my lid only WS6. He was .1 ( 13.5 @ Idk ) away from my previous best without his new methanol kit. Can't wait till my car is fixed and we can actully run.

i'd rather have a v8, if i can get my v6 faster then i will... but if i can get an ls1 then i will do that too. I will take up for my v6, but i have to say that v8 have their advantages as well.

Re: Why I modify my V6

I dont really understand. The biggest argument im hearing is a 13 second V6 is more impressive than a 13 second V8. Okay, duh. But why bother? Why spend all the cash trying to make a V6 do something its not really made to do when you can just buy it like that and have something 99% more reliable. Now if you dont have the $$$ for an Ls1 I understand but I dont think those are the people saying they want to beat Ls1's with their 3800s.

Is it not impressive for a n/a V8 to run 11's?
You guys act like you cant mod a Ls1 and I just dont get it.

I think hes right... it is more impressive to have a "weak" car that is fast.. esp. if it looks good (which means all those civic toting morons can f-off, lol).

                            different strokes for different folks.

always wanted a ls1, now i got one running low 12's with boltons in a a4. what ever makes you happy honestly. personally, im a speed junkie and its easier to get my fix with a v8, although my old six on spray was fun...

you guys say why bother.... last time i checked most ls1's are like 8+k for decent miles...

a 3.8 you can find for 3k.. that gives you 5k to spend on it or do whatever you want to it... and i know 5k is not that much but that is a turbo system and a nice nitrous system if you think about it.... sure you might be slower then a ls1 but i think it still would be fun to have...

p.s either way i love camaros and firebirds i dont care what they have v8/v6 its still damn sexy :)
