Re: pretty sure it's de-mod time

haha Dan you sound like me last year year when i was having the same problems with everything being wrong...finally i walked away from the whole project, let me car sit on jacks for a week then went out and got everything else done in a matter of hours and it finally ran how i wanted it too. Im sure the problem is small and dont forget...everytime you keep your bettery unhooked for more then 30 mins, your PCM forgets everything..its like cutting off oxygen to the brain...eventually you go brain dead. Once you hook it back up, its gonna run like **** for about 50 miles untill it can learn all the new fuels trims, shift patterns, air flow, etc. Once it does that you can start tunning away and getting **** perfect....thats what i did...

but if you end up getting rid of the car, sell all your turbo hot piping but keep everything else...buy a used LS1 by selling your car and have turbo headers made up for it and throw your turbo on it....you can have a turbo mounted on your LS1 for around a grand...and a Turbo LS1 will walk and murder a Cobra anyday...

Just my .02. Its what we discused about online...thats what i wanted to do lol

hang in there dude, I have followed this adventure of yours for sometime and I think you are close, can't blame ya on the decision on the block.

I will throw something out there though, run a tap through the threads in the block for the heads and intake before you reinstall, it may be an issue of not being able to torque everythign down properly due to crap on some threads.

just an idea, good luck to ya man whatever you decide

            I see
But not everyone can always UPGRADE everytime they blow their motor, or if their motor gets worn....etc. AND if it is a real racer it WILL need to be rebuilt every what 3-5 seasons? (depending on conditions)
My cuz runs circle track and has to rebuild every season on a N/A.
What are you gonna do when you blow or wear out that 408"? You gonna stick to your fail-safe plan: "when motor has problems, UPGRADE!!" ??
            mr. WISH I Had $$$$$?
Part non-portability is another thing that will add to the cost
I for one dont want to just keep throwing used engines at the car every few seasons and have shorter lifespan.
Yes youre right, Iron OR sleeves FTW
but there is nothing wrong with a person sticking to a stock ls1 block
rebuild / build > * !! Which would be able to identify dan's problem clearly
(I know you dont wanna hear that and I'm not gonna recommend it)

yah im not saying that it is PCM related...just saying when you figure it out and get it running before you flip **** and decide you wanna get rid of it cause its running like ****, the PCM learning the new fuel trims has alot to do with it. Im sure its something small and stupid you just havent noticed it yet.

dan, did ya scrape the surfaces of both sides on everything with a razor blade? Did ya use acetone (maybe even 91% Iso alcohol) to make sure there is no oil on gasket areas? Is yer $hit warped? Could also be the front (timing) cover gasket leak.
(I'm sorry, WHERE did you say it was leaking to? What are the symptoms?)

                  edit: found it:
