  • And so the dilema finally happens in my garage... Mustang vs Camaro

as some of you might know, I have my 2k camaro, and recently picked up a 92 5.0.

Now obviously the 5.0 will be seeing more racing duty and fun and such.... But I have a set of SS 10-spokes for the camaro, just need tires(I miss my 17X9s). Its getting that time for me to need tires on the Camaro.

I am looking up on some fo the budget performance tires, probably gonna spend $500-600 to get a set of tires out the door and on the car.

But now, great deal on a set of heads just came up on a local board for the Mustang(I have some money budgeted for the stang too)

I have a set of BBK coated longtubes coming through soon, already have a upper and lower intake waiting to go on the Mustang. Now this set of edelbrock performer heads.... With all that, the mustang, is going to be a ****ing beast.

Now the dilema is... I might sell off the SS 10-spokes, pick up a set of used tires, or set of used wheels/tires (and sell off the 5-spokes I have now) as well.

Either way I might be able to get good tires on the camaro and "break even" or spend very little money.

Freeing up an extra $500 or so to go towards the heads....

I think the Camaro might lose the who gets the mod battle.

I know I'm gonna get flamed for this but, honestly I'd get the heads for the Stang instead of tires for the 'maro cuz I like going fast. Thats just me :)

When I first read the thread title I thought you were thinking about selling one of them! In that case....sell the stang

yeah... that woudl definitely happen 1st... I have been driving alot at work and not sure the Mustang is up for the task, especially since its in the garage dead.(charging issue, corroded wire)

When thinking about it, the aftermarket for the 5.0's is just rediculous. Plus, eventhough weak in stock form, it doesnt take a whole lot to get them making serious power and going really fast.

          pretty much...

performance upper and lower intake manifolds $300 (new)
          BBK ceramic coated Longtubes $150
          Set of aluminum heads, $900

with everything running right and a few other mods, I will be in the 350hp range easily, maybe more.

doesn't sound like much but there are guys running mid to high 12s in foxs with right around 300 rwhp.

Kind of light cars that launch hard.... and I still might be juicing it down the road... Just want to get the intake in, get a full exhaust. I was deciding to do heads since well doing everything else around it. Get it all running right, then focus on the suspension/drivetrain, then look at nitrous then. :)

I mean just look at this for sale section....

look how many people veiwing each section...

All that for a 3.8 Fbody would be about the same price (ish), but the power/tourque gains wouldnt be anywhere close to it. :( But Fbodies look better ;)

Parts are cheap and they respond well to mods.

LOL? are there even aftermarket upper and lower intakes availible for the 3.8L?

Where can you get ceramic coated longtubes for $150?

Where can you even get aluminum heads, yet alone aftermarket aluminum heads?

If I really wanted to, which I still may do and was the original plan I can go to GT40P heads, they are iron and can be had for like $200-300 and can get me up to the 300 rwhp levels.

Damn.. why can't our cars be more like the foxes when it comes to mods? :(

Still wouldn't trade my car in for a fox body.. even if it did run 12s.... they're just so damn ugly

.. i thought when i read the title that this would be about which car gets to live in the garage..

LOL well the Fox won that battle... because well its a FORD :)

Then the Cavalier is getting garage time.... Then I am going to get the camaro detailed, then zaino it myself. Got a detailer who will wash, buff, and clay my car for $65, he normally charges $100, but I asked for a price with no wax being put on, just washed clayed, buffed, then I will zaino it :)

besides the fox is HOT! (yeah it won't be winning any carshows, but I have always been more of a performance enthusiust then looking pretty)

Lol, I was talkin about parts such as p&p upper/lower intakes, Pacesetter headers and a good set of ZZP or Abbott heads. Not that they are as high performance as the parts you mentioned, but just in terms of whats available to us. :)

Or you could buy a $17 claybar kit thingy, and wash and wax it for free....

well if you go into "comparible" parts....

-port and polished stock upper and lower intakes are probably $100(people actually rather take them for scrap aluminum, more then they port/polish them)
-Ceramic coating adds like $100-150 to the cost of headers, you are talking about non-coated headers
-As for heads, more comparible to what abbot heads are, are Thumper heads(worked over stock heads), they are $399-$600, all freshened up and cleaned up.

you can get a full heads, cam, timing chain set for $900, pretty much guranteed low 12s n/a

That's a good thing, because that fox body is far from attractive..

I even have a clay, bar, 2 of them :)

I am jsut too lazy. and my car is bad, I will be out there with a claybar for 4 hours. That and the fact, I am a little afraid to buff my car out myself. This guy gets nothing but praise from local car people I have seen his work. He is also going to be fixing up a few bleminshes, and helping with some swirls I have gotten over the years...

**** I am already planning to tip the dude and extra $20 because I feel he underbidded. :)
