Your argument assumes that more active control leads to the actions described when there probably isn't a causal relationship: following your argument logically, more laws placing various restrictions would cause an increase in the things being restricted. That's obviously absurd. Do traffic laws encourage you to speed more, or to run stop signs? In general, these laws discourage people from taking a given action.

Restrictions on guns don't lead to school violence, they were brought on in response to school violence. Violence in schools can be caused by a lot of things. Those Columbine kids were just plain crazy: their actions had nothing to do with restrictions on guns in school.

I enjoyed reading those, although they were a bit extreme.

I don't think you can say that their actions had nothing to do with gun restrictions... i mean obviously if it had been much harder for them to obtain the guns in the first place then people wouldn't have died.

No, he wasn't saying it to that extent (at least from what i understand).

From my point of view on his argument, humans have an innate need to go against authority. Thats why if you tell a little kid to sit still, he gets up and dances right when you turn your back to him. Its the idea that putting a restriction on something makes it more sought after.

I am just saying that people skipped class just to go eat in the past and still made time for school, but since they are more strict now about skipping, it makes more people want to skip just to get away with it.

While the list is interesting, these things did not occur in a vacuum. As already pointed out, the world changed and society changed with it. Are things taken too far, absolutely, but all things need to be considered.

I agree with the above post, the world has changed. Some things are better, some are worse.

From my point of view on his argument, humans have an innate need to go against authority. Thats why if you tell a little kid to sit still, he gets up and dances right when you turn your back to him. Its the idea that putting a restriction on something makes it more sought after.
Yes, I know that's what he was saying. My argument directly contradicts that. Children are sometimes inclined to disobey authority, but adults generally fall into line because they've been conditioned to do so. Believe me, I work with kids, and have for awhile: NORMAL children will respond to the threat of consequences, if they're well conditioned. They only disobey authority when they perceive the authority figure's resolve to be weak, or think that punishment won't ensue.

In general, humans are conditioned to obey authority through the rule of law. There are exceptions, evidenced by the fact that we still have crime. Overall, though, it's an invalid argument that gun control laws can CAUSE more school shootings. One might be able to make a valid point, however, that gun control laws don't necessarily deter.

The Columbine kids didn't care about the consequences: they killed themselves. That's why they were dangerous. Other kids maybe don't think of the consequences, or are so mentally deranged that they don't care. Gun control laws aren't causing violence, bad parenting and lack of awareness of mental illness in a lot of these kids are some of the main causes.

Its all oh-so-much deeper then that though. Kids 'back in the day' could be paddled in school for acting like an idiot. Now-a-days, kids who act like idiots get a detention, then skip the detention, and so on. They will act up because they perceieve the authority to be weak (like you said), which they are.

The only thing that remains the same is that all things are changing. Everything changes and will continue to change. What we complain about now compared to the past will be forgotten 1,000 years from now. They will say that the year 2050 was better then 3000 because of certain things.
