  • I have a purchasing oportunity...

I have bumped into a pretty good deal, but I wanted to get some thoughts on it. I know this guy that has a 2000 Z28 that is very similar to my 3.8... black, close to the same mileage, same options, same year, both in excellent shape. He's about to purchase a new car and his son wants the Camaro. He really doesn't want his son having that much power. I suggested. almost joking, that I trade him my V6 and some cash for the Z28. He thought that was a great idea.

Here's the deal. I hadn't planned on doing much to my V6. It's stock with the exception of a Magnaflow catback system. All I had planned on adding was a Powerdyne supercharger from RK Sport to get a bit more juice.

From a cost standpoint, it will cost me about the same. So, with only horsepower / torque considered... SC V6 vs. Stock V8 with no future plans of upgrading, which would you go with?

V8.... only thing that might suck is insurance.

V8 is less headache by far. And someday you might find out you want to mod it,

Yes, the insurance difference for me is substantial for some reason in my county.

I don't know if I would be modding the V8, as I've driven Z's before and the amount of power they have is fine for me.

Another advantage of going the SC V6 route is the body kit I have on it and I've spent a lot of time on the stereo system. I think he wants my car as is.

But I do like the power if the 28. That's why I was considering the supercharger. But if I'm not going to get Z28 output, i may have to bite the bullet and loose my goodies.

Re: I have a purchasing oportunity...

V8 no questions asked...lets same he wants ur car plus $1000 dollars....

and u were gunna spend $3000 on the supercharger for ur V6

from a 1/4 mile time standpoint

the extra $2000 you could put into the V8 would burn ANY supercharged 6 out there

                  go the V8 pleaseee

Well no, actually he's wanting my car plus $2500. The blue book difference on the cars is $3400. A few things the Z has over mine is the six speed tranny and leather interior. These are nice, but I'm more interested in the power.

heres my view on this....if you are going to S/C a 6, then you better be serious about racing, otherwise what is the point of all that work, tuning, etc?

and if you are serious about racing, well then you cant be serious about your stereo, its a conflict of interest. imo

Ah... so once you get the SC setup, you can't just leave it be? Are they constantly in need of maintenance? I was under the impression that you just installed the kit and you were good to go.

any power adder is going to bring with it extra work

no such thing as really a plug and play, unless you wanna run like 4 psi (dont even think the make pulleys that small) and get like 30hp out of your $3,000 purchase.

Well that's definitely something to consider then. Truly sounds like the Z28 is a no-brainer.
