As you know I've been gone for almost 2 months from this community.
On Sunday, March 4th at 2 am my wife almost died. We usually stay up late on Saturday. My wife has been complaining of not feeling good all day. I thought she was coming down with a fever. We were planning on watching a movie at 2 am in the morning when my wife started breathing hard and couldn't catch her breathe. She was quickly losing consciousness and decided to lay flat on the floor.
Next thing I know she threw a severe seisure. Her body got very stiff, her body felt like a rock. I tried asking her what's wrong aloud but she wasn't responding. About 2 min. afterwards her whole body went limp she stopped breathing. Her eyes dilated, her lips turned blue, her cheeks, neck arms and forehead turned blue. Her body went from warm to cold very fast.
I freaked out not knowing what to do, I was completely blank. I tried rousing her then suddenly she started breathing in a shallow way and a blueish/white foam was coming out of her mouth. I called 911 and told them what's going on. The Fire Dept. and Ambulance came and they rushed her to the ER, which thankfully was only a mile and half away.
The ER worked on her non-stop and the doctor told me she's dying and also told me to inform my whole family. I sign all sorts of papers in case of her death.
For 14 hours the ER continuously worked on her with very little hope. The doctor told me she had build up fluids in her lungs and because of cardiac arrest. They induced her into a coma and let the machines do the work so they could relax her body. Her heart rate was at 192 (normal is 77), body temp was 60* and her blood pressure down to 56. They were giving all sorts of stuff to reduce her heart rate and increase blood pressure. They put her body in a heater blanket and cranked all the way up.
Since my wife was born with a congenital heart defect (atresia Tricuspid) and has had 3 surgery when she was a baby they were risking alot. Plus her right lung is only working less that 8% and her left lung was doing all the work. Plus with the fluid, they were afraid it might collapse.
Finally the doctor presumed that there's a blood clot in her heart and recommended an extreme form of blood thinner to give her. He said it will either help her or kill her. He said it might 40% or mortality from it is 60% or higher. I spoke to the whole family and we all agreed. I signed a waiver.
The blood thinner caused her to bleed alot from the nose and mouth. The bleeding was none stop.
She was later taken up to the Critical Care Unit-- the heart, lung, nerve specialist were there. They were trying their best to keep her heart rate down and her blood pressure up. The bleeding hasn't stopped and her body got bloated resulting from the toximia. She went from weighing 132lbs and shoot up to 179lbs. She was beyond recognition now. She doesn't look like my wife anymore. Her skin was so stretched out that it was cracking and causing lesions.
Nuerologist tested her brain and found her to have severe brain damage. He told me that if she survive, she won't be the same. She suffered from lack of oxygen in the brain, anoxiation.
My wife was in Critical Care for almost a month. She went to three different hospitals was seen by numerous specialist.
My wife lost her job because she was 10 days shy from being a full year and didn't qualify for family leave act. I almost lost my job at UCRiverside because I was hired on Feb. 1. My supervisor pulled through for me in order to keep my job and keep my insurance going.
Throughout this ordeal I cried. I cried liked I've never cried in my whole life...and I usually don't cry easily. I was in pure hell and felt completely hopeless. I wasn't eating or sleeping. I suffered from a nervous breakdown. If it wasn't for my wife's friend I would have been in a car accident. It was a good thing she was with me at that time when I was driving to and from the hospital.
I also asked my whole family, friends, co-workers and you guys to pray for us. I prayed to God and to Jesus like I've never prayed before. I asked the Virgin Mary and the Saints to pray for my wife.
On March 27 the neurologist recommended that she be taken out of sedation so he could fully evaluate her brain. 24 hrs. later my wife came around and said hi to everyone in the room by waving at them. She couldn't talk because of all the tubes. Everyone was elated!
At that time I went back to work in order not to loose it and was taking evening classes for her so the teacher wouldn't drop her. My brother-inlaw called me and told me she was fine. Like nothing has happened to her. Her memory was fine except she doesn't remember what happened. She was asking for me and wanted to see me. I couldn't go right away because the hospital was over 100 miles away. But I immediately went the next day. I was extremely happy to see her looking at me with a smile and recognizing me.
I thank God. And everyone.
She's home with me now and there's talk about a 4th open heart surgery later this year or early next year. Right now only 2 of her heart valve is working and there's a large blood cloth at her super vena cava and parts of the valves. Right now the blood thinner is helping her and the medication to regulate her blood pressure.
She looks good and very active. I am extremely happy and very appreciative she's with me. God is good indeed.
