  • Current condition of my car..

Worked on the dent a little more. I think i'm going to buy some bondo and see what i can do. As for the rocker panel, i still need to take the door off and pound it out of the way so the passenger door works, and maybe get that one professionally done...maybe not tho we'll see.

Everything looks better from far away..not even noticable at 20 or so feet..

BTW, it hasn't been washed in almost 2 weeks..

Believe me, i hate the bumper sticker too..however, it's staying...better to see that then the hole that's underneath it. When i get the bondo, i may try reenforcing it behind the hole and filling it with bondo, that way i can take the bumper sticker off.

The top section of the q-panel is a B_0tch to fix! I did damage to mine on the driver's side back in 1999, and finally got around to fixing it in August of 2006.
Here's my attempt at fixing it. What I CAN say is that the dealer never even noticed the bodywork on that q-panel when I was trading it in, so I guess it was at least a half-decent job.

I highly recommend the Rage Extreme Bodyfiller as opposed to Bondo! It was a bit easier to apply, dried with minimal pitts with and was easier to sand. The company also says that it resist's cracking better than Bondo. Just drill some holes in the body before applying so the bodyfiller has something to grip it'self onto.

What kind of paint did you use and how much did it end up costing you? I'd like to tackle this, and maybe the rocker panel too, but i want to have an idea what it's going to cost first.

You should get that taillight fixed too while you're at it. ;)

ouch man... just ouch... holes?! ideally all you need to do is rough the existing paint (providing its properly adhering) with 80 grit sandpaper for the filler to adhere. one really good step before the filler is to pull the dent out.
+1 on the rage extreme. biggest difference between the "bondo" brand filler and rage is bondo is a plastic filler, where rage products are polyester, polyester lasting much longer. the pinholes are caused from applying the filler in too heavy a layers. rage extreme properly applied will harden with no pinholes at all.

looks like the body work you did turned out pretty good

I have a local auto body supply shop nearby. All-in-all, the paint & sullpies (1 pt. of paint, 1 qt. of clearcoat, 1 qt. of thinner, 3 drain screens, 3 mixing cups) ran me exactly $91.

I have an air compressor and a Devilbiss Gun arleady, so I did the painting in my friggin' driveway. The wife & and neighbors were pissed!! I made the half of my neighborhood smell like MAACO :D I just laughed though. Most of the neighbors are over 80 yrs old and the wife...well...she was mad for a while, but she got over it.

Jus got home from the bra about 10 mins ago, g'night

I went ahead and bought bondo. It was $8 at GI joes, and i went online and found the rage extreme stuff and it was about $25 once it was shipped. Bondo has been around forever so it can't be that bad. I'll just have to put a little more time into it i guess. As for paint...I'm not sure what i'll do yet. i have a sprayer but i don't know how good of quality it is..

dont forget there should never be more than like 1/8 of an inch of bondo anywhere, so u best get to pulling those dents.

I'm gonna work on it a little bit more when i start the bondo process, but as of now, it's all within about a 1/4 inch of the final height, so it shouldn't be too bad.

if you did body work for a living you would see why. if you dont let it fully cure (at least a day) before sanding it shrinks like a bi***, any given amount of time after painting it can very easily laquer check your paint, and several years later it looks like sh**. particularly on top surfaces that get a lot of uv exposure.
its great stuff for production shops that dont care about their customers.

Some professional's actually apply the bodyfiller, sand, and wait up to 1 month, apply again, sand, wait a week and then paint. It allows time for shrinkage to take place and makes the final product look like it was never even dented.

I bought the Rage Extreme at a local body store. I forget exactly how much it was, but I think it was something like $23 for the gallon. I've got alot left over too.
