i dont like the fact that IBM is chinese now. otherwise i would like them.
im trying to stay toshiba, sony, or mac. ive worked with macs before, i dont like them but i recognize that theyre good computers.
Well, I'll stick with this HP. Nothing gimmicky to it. It's prolly the best quality lappy I've seen out of all of them on campus. Everytime I see somebody get their laptop out, I have to go check it. And HP owns Compaq now, not the other way around. Compcrap has always been crap, and yes, their MoBos die frequently. I've seen a couple Toshiba's with dead screens within 1 year too. Take that info for what it's worth, there's gonna be different stories from everybody you talk to.

All I know is that both USB ports, the CD drive, the LCD, and battery all died on that Vaio within 2 years. Luckily I had an extended warranty. Never again

I have a 4 year old toshiba, still kickin along. Best laptop i've had, no problems.
I've heard bad things of Sonys VIAO. Not really famillar with the other brands that much. Stay away from the apple.

            Re: laptop?

I've got a Toshiba, and am actually using it right now. Got it for Christmas, and have had no problems with it what so ever. I haven't used many other laptops, but so far this one's fitting me nicely. Got enough power to do some multitasking, and enough for any schoolwork I may need to do. Built in wireless internet, 512RAM, 80G HD, 1.47GHz Intel Celeron M processor, DVD+- Burner, all the essentials to get by, and then some. You can usually find them on sale at BestBuy or Circuit City at holidays for around $350ish.

i just used a new sony, forget what model. it was so nice!
went to the sony store in the mall though, and it seems like you have to dish out $2400 to get something decent. youre basically paying for a crystal clear screen... theyre so nice!
then i went to the apple store, and it was great. people knew a lot, and were more than willing to answer every question i had. they won me over.

tomorrow im going back to buy either the black macbook, or the macbook pro. nice discount for college students also. i think im just going to partition my hard drive so that i can run windows when i have withdrawal.

We have a Toshiba, bought the latter part of last year. It‘s the second one, because the first one’s screen died on us within a couple of weeks, so we went back to Office Depot and swapped it out. I don’t know if I would recommend Toshiba’s or not. Overall, I guess it’s ok other than the problem we have when typing something. For some reason it will jump around sometimes while you are typing and you have to go back and fix it. For example this: “It will jump around when typing” could come out like this:
“ when typinoundg It will jump ar”. I don’t know if this is a typical laptop problem, but I have never had any problems like that with a standard Desktop computer.

If your laptop has the feature, try turning off the touch pad when you type. Everyonce in a while while I'm typing, my wrist/thumb/etc will tap the pad and the computer sees it as you clicking, so it moves the cursor.

Our main server and wireless routers in school were replaced all with Mac hardware....and the tech guys are here every other day trying to keep the **** network up...maybe it is a reliable OS but damn I hate the ****ing interface, not to mention if you multitask on a mac and do about 3 things at once, the whole things locks up and you get that lovely swirling rainbow for a few minutes....and this isn't coming from just a windows guy, I primarily run linux.

Either way, best of luck to ya!

Yeah, I've thought about the touch pad being the problem, but wasn't sure - I may try that to see what happens;)
