  • guess im nervous...

i want to sell my car and get something i feel comfortable tearing apart and modifying (which is what i planned). but im afraid i might not get a whole lot out of the car since its my first car and its been through hell. heres a list of problems:

window motor wont roll up or down on passenger side

tires have 3500 miles on them and they're shot

left rear rim is bent but only slightly and holds air fine

passenger rocker panel has quite the ding in it (from a curb)

couple small dents in the hood and some small scratches

and when you start the car theres a nice ticking sound that goes away after about 2 minutes

and heres what the car has on it...

    billet grille

    dual halos

    clear corners all around

    pioneer head unit

    pioneer speakers

    torque thrust 2's

    kumho ecsta spt's

53k miles on it with consistent oil changes every 3k miles

i was planning on turboing the car but its just cost me so much money already and i need something not as nice for my first car...so im selling it and am propably going to end up with a 240sx or 300zx to tear in to...if someone could give me a ballpark figure on how much its worth now and if i fixed the window and put some new tires on it. also, heres a few pics (before the billet grille) ...

im going to miss her...but i just dont feel comfortable working on such a nice car when im just starting out.

theres nothing that wrong w/ the car. that ticking sound is just a slight exhaust leak (you know cuz it goes away)... you should probably get about 9-10 grand. it all varies by location...

i dont understand tho what you mean about working on such a nice car??? y wouldnt u wanna be driving the nicest car you can get? dude, honestly, i'd keep it.. you're gonna sell it, buy another car, (probably alot older) and realize you're gonna be in the same money problems u are now. especially cuz you dont have that many miles on the camaro, you're not worrying too much about repairs. honestly dude, i'd keep it

by not working on such a nice car i mean, i want to learn more about cars and working on them...and i dont want this to be the car i practice on... i want to learn painting, engine swapping, suspension work, etc...and i dont want to screw up this car like that...so i figured id buy something not as nice and try everything i want on that car.

If you don't want to screw up, do your homework before you start tearing into the motor. Just cuz you drive a camaro, doesn't mean you are banned from reading technical manuals and using forums

dude...it doesnt matter how nice the car is, u can do anything to that car as u could any other junker if u want to learn painting try painting peices of the interior or try vht for your taillights if it dont come out well u can always take the stuff right back off...or the motor u can turbo it or whatever, if u get in a jamb u can always have someone work on it for you. or u can learn your self...point is keep the car and do what u want to it. its al about money no matter what car u got.

dude, don't take this the wrong way, but it's not that nice of a car. It's a sweet ride and all, but a good car to learn to wrench on. You mentioned the problems with, start with those. Do research and talk to people before tearing into it.

Now, my old Bimmer - that was a car even I didn't tear apart.

              Yea, that's another thing....yea, you're car is cool. But, it's a F-body, not a Ferrari...a V6 f-body at that.

                could easily be valvetrain problem

9-10 grand? are you serious. Maybe 6500. you'd only pay maybe 8500 tops at a lot

6500? ****.. i wish i lived in Oklahoma... could probably buy a nice G35 or something there for what i'm looking at.....

Keep your car, and if you're affraid to rip into it then just buy some hunk-a-junk Honda for fiver and a can of coke. And if you really decide to sell your car and want to know how to price it then hit up the Kelley-Blue-Book website and then Craigslist to see what other v6 camaros are going for in your area. No point asking people who live in a different part of the country (like the heartland for example :poke: ....)

7000 Cash . if you keep it in the market long enough, 7500 from some green peas (new car buyers). That's what I think.

im not trying to say my car is ferrari quality, its just i cant justify messing up something id have no way of being able to replace...and the things im talking about doing to a car is really major...like learning porting, full-car paintjob, body work, custom exhausts, turbos, etc...another thing is that (and dont take this the wrong way) our cars arent making ALOT of power...i mean im seeing 4 cylinders in the 9's and 6 cylinders in the 7's then i see our cars having a hard time getting into 11's...i guess i really just want something fast, cheap, and something i can replace if i screw it up :poke:

If you're so dissatisfied, how 'bout you man-up and change that instead of just quitting? If everyone expected everyone else to break records, nothing would happen and the record would be stock times...so it kinda lame if you judge what your car's capable of off of someone else's work

Once you really start moving, those two words don't go together

at 17, did you have the kind of money it takes to break a record like this? :slap:

lemme put it to you this way: any car that you're gonna invest all that time money and effort into... you're gonna get attached to it. if its not your camaro, its a neon (ugh...) or a zx240 or a civic or whatever.... you're gonna get ticked if you screw it up. you put all the work into it and the engine blows.... your gonna be mad no matter what the car. Our cars arent that expensive. really they arent. they're slightly more expensive in terms of repair parts but dude... 3800's are a dime a dozen. i'd say at least 1/4 of gm vehicles come with it as an option. with there being so many of them, it's easy to find parts.
another thing, dude, im 20. i'm still workin my butt off to get myself thru school and putting little bits of money away so when i get out, i'll be able to do something nice with the motor... as much as we want, we cant always get what we want now (unless you're parents are willing to help you out...)

i guess the thing i dont wanna see happen is you sell your car, buy another cheaper car with higher milage and A. break it and have no money to fix it or B. the damn thing stays reletively stock. Either case, its better to have the camaro. i dont wanna see you go thru all that selling and buying and wind up worse off...
