Is there anyone here that plays golf? I played for the first time two years ago. I didn't get to play much last year but I can tell a big improvement so I want some new golf clubs. I do have a huge slice problem, mainly because I try to hit the ball too hard. So... are there any clubs that anyone loves and reccomends to a somewhat beginner looking for something better? Also, what is your favorite driver?

Re: Golf
I love golfing but I don't really get to go all that much. I plan to go a lot more this year though. I need to get some better clubs too. My dad has some driver that's actually supposed to fix your slice, I think it was a Taylor Made or a knock-off brand of it. I used it last time we went and it really helped me out since I have a terrible slice too.

Re: Golf
I've played on and off since I was 5 so 21 years. Played in a few tourny's but haven't played much in the last couple years. I've been wanting to get into it a lot more lately for some reason. I'm just going to build my own set of irons and probably look at a set of taylor made woods, always been a fan. Callaway is good if you like spending money, Nike is doing good things but haven't tried them personally. Fun sport, if you ever get lessons try to find someone that will not only help your swing but help you diagnose your swing if you have problems, i.e. slice, fade, chunkin' it. Best lesson I got.Let's flip a coin. Heads I get tail, Tails I get head.

Re: Golf
I like pings, but the brand doesn't matter as much as technic and having a set of clubs that fit your swing. Go get some lessons and when you get a new set of clubs get fitted at a pro shop. You would be surprised how much of a difference it makes.

Re: Golf
Well I found a guy down the street that is selling his taylormade r5
I think I'm goin to buy it, since he has it for a good price. Then I'm going to find me a nice set of irons. I had some blades but I couldn't hit them worth crap. I don't care about getting better right now, I just want to get consistent. I get a great hit out of every 3 or 4 swings and the others tend to be comical.I think I might go golfin today.

Re: Golf
If you have money to burn, get Taylor Made or Titleist Irons. Ping is not bad, but I suggest staying away from the Nike clubline. Cheaply made, hard to play with once you have your mechanics down. Nike clubs require a certain type of swing and player.
I still use an older TM Firesole driver, works great for me, and I have Taylor Made wedges, and cheaper Golden Bear Irons that need to be replaced.
Also, depending on how you swing, graphite or steel shafts make a world of difference, and the flexibility of them also matters. I have high flex graphite, I need to go with low flex, a much stiffer graphite. I would go steel, but the low flex graphite seems to be stiffer than steel, just need to take care of them to keep that low flex.
BTW, as for custom fitting, its a little overrated. I have my driver and fairway woods fitted, as well as my 3 and 4 iron, but everything else is as it was from factory. Not every club needs fitted, no sense in it. What you need to do is to stick with a set of clubs for a year or two, and get used to playing with them. Every club is made different, and fitting and refitting them constantly isn't going to help. So stick with a set and play with it for a season or two, then if you have problems from there, have that set refitted. The key to getting better with your clubs is to stick with them. Ive had my set for 4 years now, when I first got them, I shot a 121 on a par 72, last year, I got a 84 on the same course.Last edited by Mogobs30th; 05-08-2007, 04:07 PM.1995 Pontiac Firebird

Re: Golf
Very True, custom fitting is not neccesary. Get some good instruction from a club pro or someone like that.
:( I wish I could go with graphite but I can't afford the stiffest shafts my swing speed is too fast. Stick with some light steel for the irons and splurge for the stiff graphite shafts on the woods.Let's flip a coin. Heads I get tail, Tails I get head.

Re: Golf
When I got some clubs I played at a course for about a month and was shooting 115 - 120... then about two months later I came back and shot my best ever of 91
I know thats not great, but since I've only been playing for 2 years... I am proud of it. I need to get comfortable with a swing... I keep changing it up and that messes me up bad.
