      Re: Golf

I found some King Cobra oversized irons 2-pw... the guy said he would sell them to me for 100 bux. They are used, but I know these clubs tend to go over a hundred pretty easily. I think I'll go ahead and email him back. That sound like a good price to you guys? I know the oversized clubs will help me out alot since I tend to not play consistent and they will allow more forgiveness.

        Re: Golf

I actually played my first round of golf this year. I liked it a lot and wasn't too bad for a beginner. Well thats what my friends say. I ended up picking up a full set of Ram clubs for cheap as a beginners set that next week. I know they probably aren't the best set of clubs, but I figured I would get those and make sure I really like golf before I spend any big time cash. As for my friends two of them have taylor made irons, and one has a nike sasquash driver which he says he loves. I hope to go out this week golfing to give my new clubs a whirl.

I had a few ram irons... they aren't too bad for their price but compared to other golf clubs they are cheap. play with those, and if you like golf and decide to buy something different then try wilson or dunlop which are cheap and better then RAM in my opinion. I've played with my wilson clubs for too long now, thats why I am getting something nicer.

              Re: Golf

Advice I can give to you about your slice is, make sure you are coming straight down on the ball, having a true, in-line swing and make sure the golf club fits you. If the shaft is to long or to short for your height then it's going to make you automatically slice because you are going to either be reaching down to hit the ball square (which in turns means that your swing will be pulling in, causing a n outward slice) or you will be pulling up to hit the ball square (which in turn means that your swing will be pushing out, causing the ball to fade (slice inward))

As far as golf clubs that will help take away your slice....I would recommend the T-Rex II. I forget who makes it, but it has a very large sweet spot so it's very forgiving on a not so perfect swing. I have one that I will play around with when we are having long drive contests, because I can basically go up, stand however I want and just swing the hell outta the club not worrying about formation and swing line and if I make contact with the ball, it's going to be hitting the sweet spot and it's going to be going straight. And since it has an enlarged sweet spot, that means the entire ball will be hitting the sweet spot every time, which in turn equals 20 to 30 more yards on your tee off :)

                Re: Golf

You can't diagnose a swing online, go find a club pro or someone that's playing good and ask them to watch your swing and see if they can give you some pointers. Clubs have little to nothing to do with the effectivness of your game, some clubs will improve distance and accuracy but overall they have little to do with it. It comes down to fundamentals. I could pickup any club and within 7-10 shots be hitting as well as the next club. Fundamentals and if that don't work then beer.

                  Re: Golf

its about the swing and not the club... but for starters a 10 degree driver helps for those with problems hitting the ball perfectly. I found the best way for me is to slow down my swing.

                    Re: Golf

That's what I'm saying, my swing speed when I had my clubs made 10 years ago was about 110mph, it's probably down to 95-100 now, I'm fatter and out of shape, what of it, lol. Some people can swing hard as hell with good results and others (old people) swing 10mph and drive as far as the people swinging hard, it all comes down to fundamentals or beer

                      Re: Golf

You say it has nothing to do with the clubs, but you had your clubs special made? If a club is too long or too short for that persons posture then they are going to have to create a new posture and a different type of swing to hit the ball correctly.

Fundamentals is a big part of your swing, having the right tempo, and being evenly spaced from the ball and have a true straight swing, but clubs are also a very important part as well.

If clubs weren't a big part of golf, they wouldn't specially make golf clubs, they would all be sold in one or two sizes, like large and small.

Or you can do like my brother in law used to do when he first started playing golf.......don't worry about your slice, just play with it.....he would stand in the tee box and aim way left of the fair way and it would slice on around and land in the center of the fairway. It really sucked though when he would play and aim for his slice and he hit it straight :P

                        Re: Golf

I had clubs specially made because I had the fundamentals down already. What I was saying is until you have the fundamentals down the best club in the world is going to help you. So the point I was getting to is once you have the skills and fundamentals you could, at least I could, pick up any club, length, face size or shape, flexible or stiff, high to low trajectory whatever and within 7-10 shots hit as good as the next club. It may not have the spectacular distance that you would get out of a $500 driver but it would be straight and consistent which is the key. That's why I was saying get some real instruction from a tour pro or club pro, the best lesson you can ever get is how to diagnose your swing. If you do hit a bad shot then you start going step by step through your mind every little thing to analyze what you did. Just my .02 but golf can become as heavily argued and debated as drugs, politics and war for some reason.

Tiger Woods and a few other proffesionals proved this one day on tv that the clubs are like 2% of your total golf handicap.

They drove 5 balls with a new top of the line driver and then 5 with an old WOODED club

all hit straight shots and the differences in length where at the most 5-10 yards... and this is done my pros... so average joes like us shouldn't see any difference. They said that specially made clubs for size help with comfort and make you feel better about your swing which will improve your game slightly. The biggest improvement you will see in clubs is the mental factor.

 Thank you. This is the point I was trying to get across. I was trying to refrain from Tiger comparisons.

Let me add my custom clubs were a gift not choice. I don't recommend them unless you like fat expensive placebos up the ***. If you got the time and patience, make your own. There is plenty of off brand names that look and feel like the top line ones but cost half as much.

I'm almost tempted to do this with a driver. My friend's dad has been putting together clubs for awhile... he told me if I get a shaft and club head (of my choice) that he will fit them for me.

It really is pretty easy, just do some reading and it can be a fun side project for ya. I'm going to be assembling mine soon, dynalite steel shafts and some nice iron heads, can't afford the forged ones I really want. Stiff fiberglass shafts and nice fat heads for the woods. Check this site out, it's where I get my equipment from, they're pretty good people and know their stuff.
