    Re: No longer V6 owner

I hate to ask the stupid question but what is the difference between the LS1 and the LT1? All I've herd was that the LS1 is better in the top end but I have a chance to snatch an LT1 to replace my 2.8 and was just curious.

ehh I guess everyone has different chances. The 3 LT1's in my town, one has 160k, another 120k, and my friends 95 TA is sitting right at 100k. All of them are ran like hell and seem to be holding up, I guess they are just a lucky few.

        ls1 is alum block

        lt1 is iron block

ls1 heads and intakes flow much better and they use coil packs instead of the pos opti spark dizzy. lt1s make most of thier power in the low/mid range stock, ls1s have a pretty smooth powerband all the way thru the rpm range lt1s dont have the top end power that the ls1 does stock but its still pretty good compared to other cars. by about 60ish mph the difference between the lt1 and ls1 shows in terms of power.

hahah not trying to start anything but this is what I was thinking, just IMO, to each his own-
                LT1: ---------------------- V6:
                intake oil leak----------------head gasket leaks
opti spark-------------------ICM, coils - not cheap
spark plug access------------99 AND DOWN spark plug access
Header Leaks----------------Thought stock motors had manifolds?????? (LT or V6)
                Broken mount----------------Broken mount

Now the opti is by far a lot worse than the coils or ICM, but I think you guys are dogging on the LT1 a bit much.

youve never seen the price of a oem opti spark have you? 400+bucks for it. plus another....6 or so hours to replace it. and to do so, you have to pull the fans, belt, air pump, water pump, and a few other things im forgetting. i own one, ive worked on it for the last 2 1/2 years, trust me the v6 is no where near as hard to work on.

not to mention, most of the time if the opti is toast, its becuase the water pump is junked to, so add the price of a waterpump to that.

Dang you over pay for opti guys. 235 shipped for oem gm from jason cromer in florida(does cheap deals over interenet for f-bodies).

The main problem is intake gasket leak and just repacing the opti. Get Long tubes and plug access isnt as bad.

Good trade, woudlnt think twice about it.

LPE makes a conversion kit for LT1's that allows them to use LS coil packs, some minor fabrication is required.

The V6 has problems of its own but working on the LT1 is just so much more of a pain in the ***. After owning two and rebuilding one I'll take my ellis juan!
