The Supra forums are really slow and not very helpful...anyone know about DOHC engines?

    1983 Supra 2.8 I-6 EFI

New Plugs, Wires, Cap, Rotor, Fuel Filter, Fuel pump works.

Car starts, runs for about 3-6 secs. then sputters and dies, it will stay alive when I give it gas. When I set the timing where it SHOULD be it ran terrible. We adjusted the timing so it would BARELY idle at one point and it was set out of the bracket range.

Could the timing belt sliped a notch or two? Any ideas?

I've done timing on a lot of DOHC honda's. If they we're off by just one or two teeth they would run like hell. Check into that first. Since it runs if you give it gas, I'm thinking it may just be an idle setting.

I agree that checking the timing belt, chain, whatever it has and see if everything checks out. the symptoms are similar to a vehicle I have worked on with a timing belt that jumped but it also matches up with some many other things :p

Check your timing again and make sure it's dead on and then see if the problem persists. I'm almost positive it's a timing issue. The timing is very sensitive on those cars, cuz they are ghey. :P But I still love them.

Big words whore, let me check I may have some threads for you to post "x2", "I don't know" or copy/paste something you read elsewhere into.

I have people from THIS board E-mail me at least once a month with a question for me, or get a hold of me on AIM. And I don't even visit the tech forums.

I can find any 17yr old moron with an ASE certification at any auto parts shop that knows just as much, if not more than you.

wow! you found a person who doesn't know it all. Good find! :poke:

You sure are not eager to point out all the people I help are you?

Wow! No Way! you get emails too? I thought I was sooooo special. Thanks for knocking my ego down a peg or two

ASEs are just a test but why is it so many people can not pass them? O' thats right, cause just some stupid teenager can't pass it. You have to actually know a thing or two. Do you have any ASEs? I have 5 and am scheduled for the other 3. So while I become a Master Tech and start working toward maybe getting my World Class certification, you'll still just be a e-tuff biatch

What do you have against me anyways? you mean nothing to me so why do i bug you so much?

People have trouble with those things? Christ. I work under a broker, not a mechanic, so no I'm not interested in any ASE's nor am I impressed by them. That's not even close to the field I am in. You work where, the service dept. of a GM dealership? If so, that is a far cry from a performance shop. So don't kid yourself.

I really don't have anything against you in all honesty. You're part of my entertainment here, I've been here even longer than you (yes I know this user's join date says otherwise). I still remember when you joined up the hilarity everyone was having with you in the Kills forum, tech forums, and lounge. Remember the Guru days? Even Stefan was joining in.

OK you guys, you are ALL special

I will learn how to take off the timing chain cover and see how to tell if it's off

I've checked the timing a couple times, it's WAY off to where it's suppose to be.

If that doesnt work then I also have a bunch of vacuum leaks to figure out
