  • New project!

Just got a call from my aunt...apparently she was going down the highway and she heard a loud "snap" noise followed by a lot of metal grinding. She called me later and turned on speaker phone and tried cranking it over, I screamed at her dear god stop trying to start it. I knew immediately the timing chain was snapped. Got it trailered up and tonight after about 1.5 hours got the head off. I knew the valves were bent and possibly a toasted motor. Upon removal and inspection, you could see where the valves bit into the pistons, but the pistons are FAR from toast. It's a 2001 saturn L series 2.2 liter. Damn I love cars.

93 F-150 (bone stock with ~300k on the clock)
96 Saturn (swapped motor, new clutch)
    99 Camaro (Rebuilt/swapped firebird motor)
1987 Honda accord (swapped motor, swapped head, lots of other work)
Soon: 2001 Saturn (swapped head, both cams timed, new timing kit installed)

I will get some pictures up tomorrow.

No, I am installing another (salvage) head and timing kit for her. She will save almost 700 dollars vs the mechanic, and I get to do what I love
