ok, so i'm 16, a junior in high school and i'ma start lookin to pick up a v6 camaro in a couple weeks. I want one cuz of the mileage and the style. the one i'm lookin at right now has...you guys are prolly gonna jump me...199,544 miles on it. i know, i know, high miles, but i'ma teen who has no job, which means i drive easy for gas' sake. now, the car has a new water pump, belt, tensioners and other new stuff on the motor. it also drives really good. no smoke, and no slips or surges in the trans. i'm pretty sure i'l be buyin this car, so what all should i do once i get it, as far as maintenance/replacin stuff, etc.? i need it to be as reliable as i can get it since i'll proly have this one a while. thanx in advance

I know you probably don't want to hear this, but the repair bills on a car that driven will pile up quickly regardless of how you drive the car. And, the total for those bills are going to be more than the car is worth, and at that point, you're stuck with a money-pit which is not what any 16 year-old needs. If you have plans to daily drive an f-body, get one with like 50K on it or something, not 200k...unless you got it free or something

And what is the history?

If its a one owner adult driven car, and they had no problem throwing money at the mechanic, and its cheap enough, maybe it could be ok enough for a 16 yo. I've seen some killer deals on high milage cars that were babied...just because they couldn't get jack on trade-in and wanted it gone. You prob don't want a real nice car anyways when you are 16 because (no offence to the younger crowd here, I remember being 16 and speak from memory) things tend to get fscked up and beat on when you are that age.

On the other hand if it was posted on craigslist after being passed around the hood I would stay far far away.

200k is alot for a camaro and could be a money pit, have it checked out.

If you want a fun car with a little zip and where mileage/maintenance isn't really important, look into a late 80's - early 90's 5-Speed Honda. I absolutely love mine and enjoy ~30 MPG with an aggressive driving style. The camaro is now sitting and is only used as a weekend car, sometimes.

yea it's a one owner car...some woman bought it for her son, who never drove it, so she drove it to work until she got to where she couldnt climb out of it anymore. her husband kept it up and alotta stuff on it is new. for now i'm gonna hope maybe it'll turn out like my cousin's 95 he put 346,xxx on. the one im lookin at is a 95 3.4L auto

i know personally because i was a junior when i got my maro (64,000) and i definately didnt drive it economically to say the least and i doubt seriously that you will. do yourself a favor and get somthing with reasonable miles unless you have money for a swap in the future and then that defeats the purpose

Search on AutoTrader, eBay, Craigslist, etc. to see if you can find a 3rd gen in your price range. It may be older, but will probably have less than 200k miles.

seriously..Take your damn time when buying a car. Make sure its what u want and think that u will be putting at least 10k on it a year.

I got mine for 5600 when i was a junior in high school (i am graduating in to weeks) but it had 73k miles and was in good condition just look around i jumped into buying my car

Not that you want to hear it, but don't ever think about getting a f-body period if you are young and don't have a JOB. Or parents or someone to back you with money. They are a money pit, especially with that many miles on it. You can even do all the work that will be required on it and it will still cost a pretty penny. It's expensive just for keeping up regular maintenance on it.

Seriously, I bought a nice 98 firebird with only 74k on it. Ive replaced everything. Now im at 86k an everything is still falling apart. I hate but love her at the same time.

200k on an f-body = money pit. brand new f-body = money pit.
