  • Advice on buying 98+ Firebird?

What are some things to specifically look for in a 98+ Firebird? What should I be on the lookout for? I know that the window motors commonly crap out, but what else?

    All firebirds suck, go Camaro

But really, just look for the basics, fluids, inspect the engine bay/underside, when you take it out for a spin, test the handling, brakes, acceleration, etc

I wouldn't let bad window motors or small little things stop you from buying a car

Hello I'm new here and I am also looking for advice, I have an old third gen but i am looking to but a fourth for a daily driver. any advice would be apreciated. also am i to understand the 98 model year should be avoided because of the angled throttle body or is it not a big deal? Also im from wisconsin and if anyone knows of a website or online car buying site that has worked well please let me know, thanks

I know the basic stuff to check out for a used car. Window motors are not that big of a deal. Im more concerned about the trans. On the wbody platform, that is the only weakness.

Its tough finding a 98+ Firebird with y87. I recently fell in love with the 01/02 Sunset Orange:drool:

You would rather get a 350Z rather than turbo a real GTX?

The only thing i would watch for is the headlight gear and possibly the door panel. neither are a big deal imo. they can be easily fixed. as for the transmission, thats iffy. i bought my y87 bird brand new in 98 and shes completely original, and i drive her very hard. the angled throttle body really doesnt matter unless you want to add mods, and then it still isnt a big deal.

the window and headlights are easy fixes. If you can find a 4th gen 98+ with a great motor and great body shape then get it. I'd rather fix the window motor, and small things like headlight gear then have to have a tranny fixed.

I could care less about the intake. Ill be doing an m90 top swap anyway, not right away though.
