  • Just test drove an evo vIII

well first of all wow, much more ballsier than I had expected it to be and I liked the look of it sooooo much more than I thought I would. The car pulled pretty hard and is untouched as far as mods, just exhaust, and it (thank god) is not ricer sounding AT ALL. Turbo sounds sick, AWD, etc.

Also today I put in an offer that was accepted for an 03 cobra. Now I present this question to you. I live in WI, so summers are short and winters are long. Clearly the Evo could be driven year round thanks to AWD. With the cobra, I'd have to find a winter car all the time and wouldnt be able to enjoy it as much. Now the cobra is also cheaper than the EVO, but I will never be able to see it in person before I buy it, it would have to be shipped. So with that in mind, and please dont just automatically get sold on the cobra cause its a cobra......what would you get and why?

I would get the Evo. 1. Because I wouldn't even think of purchasing a vehicle without test driving it, running carfax on it, and being able to inspect it from head to toe, and it's ins and outs. You would be crazy not to inspect it before buying. 2. I love the Evo as well, and really don't like Mustangs all that much, even though cobra's are pretty sechsy.
    3. You already seem to be in love with the Evo, and you are able to inspect it and what not, to be able to tell that is in good running condition, with nothing apparent (to the naked eye) to breaking in the near future. With the Cobra you are leaving a lot of that up to chance, which you should never do when purchasing a vehicle.

    4. You can drive the Evo year round. With the Cobra, you would have to purchase a winter beater, as you aforementioned. So, with buying a winter beater + Cobra, you may be spending more in the long run then what you can purchase the Evo for. And, that also means you have 2 vehicles that you will have to keep maintained, which ='s more money.

Go with the Evo, it's the smartest choice out of the two.

I would probably decide based on insurance. I know the cobra will do fine in the winters since I drive the camaros year long here in Alaska and some of my buddies have cobras and they do fine as well. The evo would be nice but if you are going to end up putting some money into it the cobra will be a better bet in the end. Also with the cobra cheaper you could buy it and a beater for the winter probably for the price of the evo.

It was definitely a lot of fun. It pulled hard for having three people in the car with me in the backseat. It was crazy nice, just a bit too bumpy for the backseat passenger; but we were on crappy side streets anyway.

        Lots of fun for sure.

No brainer, EVO. AWD great handling car with 300 HP , umm yeah :poke:. Stop wasting virtual bandwidth, it's a no brainer.

evo, winter would suck in a cobra.

Re: Just test drove an evo vIII

If the car is staying relatively stock, I'd say Evo.

But if you're modding them, Cobra no doubt. The car truly is a BAMF with mods, 7-800rwhp anyone? And hey, mid-high 12's with a decent driver stock isn't bad either.

Well, then why don't you post price, mileage, year of both cars. This way we can make a better decision for you ;)
