Lol, I tried to get a cruise set up for the weekend we were at Rod Run, but there only 3 other people even seemed interested in doin it. And yeah, get your shocks and maybe springs set up before then.
Let's try it again in the fall when the leaves start changing. Maybe people will be open to the idea by then. And I should have my new suspension setup installed by then. ;)

I'm open to the idea. My buddies WS6 is back on the road again now, so he'll be there. I just gotta see when the Fall Rod Run is. Consolidating trips man.... If it's around the same time my wife gets her temporary interruption in service, or whatever the post office calls it, we might be heading to the Carribbean. If that's the case, then I wont be in TN again this year. Lol.
Alot of the bridges there are land bridges..... if you can call them that. The larger ones that go longer distances are concrete, and pretty heavy duty at that. I dunno a whole lot about structural design, but I'd say that they were designed with Cat 4 storms in mind. Out in the middle of the ocean there's really no debris to throw at the bridge, so the only thing they'd be subjected to is horizontal wind load.
I'm sure they have been times that sections of the bridges get damaged. In some sections, there's on older bridge no longer in use, and there are some sections of it missing.
Either way, it's all in the wind load on the cross section of the bridge.
They really do not have problems in the rain. But the old bridge, was that really old. Built in the 1900s? I believe and started as a railroad bridge(actually a train got derailed back in the day by a hurricane, they didn't have technology to know if a hurricane was coming) I believe sections were removed on purpose. Hell couple sections were blown up just for the movie True Lies.

You know, whenever someone mentions that bridge, that cheesy movie is the first thing that comes to mind. Heh!
I would hope there are some assistance phones on the bridge in case someone breaks down. That would be a loooooooong walk to get help otherwise. Most of the long bridges in western Florida have phones so it wouldn't surprise me.

I was stationed at the Def Language Inst at the Presidio of Monterey in 77-78, and hustled a Triumph Trident down that stretch whenever I could!
You drove something other than a Camaro? BLASPHEMY!
I've been reading about US129 (Tail of the Dragon) and it is starting to sound better all the time. I've started planning my trip there around the suspension mods I want to do to the car. ;)

The 1st one has some good pictures of the road.
The 2nd one was all the info I posted when trying to get others to go. Maybe you can find some more useful info there.
I still think the best time to go is going to be October when the leaves change. Fortunately Georgia has many leaf changing websites like this one: http://gastateparks.org/net/content/...s=129955.0.1.5
I just monitor the sites until they say it's the best weekend of the year and I book a room somewhere and just cruise.
Might have to make it US-129 this year. :)
