How bad is missing a court date?

I got a speeding ticket a while back and my court date was May 30th. For some reason I thought that was Friday. Yeah..... it was definately today.

How about you call local and ask? everywhere will be different. Was it mandatory? They will probably make a warrent for you.

Your license may be up for suspension. I'd make a trip to the BMV/Traffic Court tomorrow morning and schedule for another hearing.

I have tried calling several times but all i get is their automated machine. And the court house closed at 4:00pm, I didn't have time to get there as its in another state and i didn't realize my mistake in time

Hop in the car tomorrow morning and take a ride there to schedule another hearing...in person. Calling them by phone won't make any difference whatsoever. Either go to file for another court date or get your license taken away. The choice is kinda easy here.

You can get a warrant for your arrest for anything, even small little things...

I can only tell you what happens in Nashville, TN. If you don't show up or make SOME form of communication when a court date for a speeding ticket is due, they immediately issue a bench warrant for your arrest. You won't have a sheriff knocking at your door but if you do get pulled over, they will arrest you immediately.

I'd say call them at 8AM and tell the clerk what happened. This kinda stuff happens to them all the time. I've known several people that had that happen to them. They just call, explain it, and reschedule another court date. In the mean time, they take the flag off your license. But don't hop in your car and speed down there without calling some PERSON first. You might literally find yourself behind bars.

In TN, you can be arrested for being pulled over and not having your license on you. Doesn't take much. What's strange is we have so many illegal immigrants in the state, one illegal was pulled over and he had 4 different LEGITIMATE licenses on him with 4 different names and the same photo on each one. The cops had no idea what to do about it so they let him go. I had a black friend that got pulled over and didn't have his license and they were going to haul him in! He was lucky enough to remember his license number and they let him go with a warning. It's a fine line between freedom and jail time here. Heh

haha, you arent going to jail. sorry. there MIGHT possibly be a warrant out... but just schedule another date and you should be fine. and if it comes down to it, jail isnt THAT bad.
