I've got a relatively decent HP laptop that I'm relying on for school next year. The problem is that I recently got into bit torrent and Azureus and haven't stopped downloading since. I'm now running out of HD space. I want to go with an external HD before I leave home for Grad school in September. What brands of external HDs would you guys/girls recommend? I'm looking for reliability, quality and something fairly well priced. Thanks in advance!

Re: external hard drive?
I understand exactly what your saying. I have a Western Digital for the office I'm in for backing up files and have considered getting the same for personal use. It's a 120GB and I believe they are around 150, don't remember exactly cause we get a huge discount. I vote for WD thoughLet's flip a coin. Heads I get tail, Tails I get head.

250 GB "Western Digital" ($94)

Re: external hard drive?
I'm a computer consultant so take what I say for what it's worth. Look into the Maxtor USB or firewire external called the Maxtor One-Touch. It's not just a great backpack hard drive but the software that comes with it is perfect for backing up files, too. You just install the Retrospect software and tell it which files to backup and then you just press the button on the front of the drive in the future. It'll do the rest.
They make one that uses a laptop hard drive (2.5" drive in the enclosure) so it's small and fast. Here's an example:

And just as a side note, I don't like Seagate. I've had to return twice as many Seagate drives (under warranty) as any other two brands combined. Maxtor was bought out by Seagate recently so I hope that doesn't affect their reliability. I have a 320GB WD in my Tivo and I've been pleased with it. They are nice and quiet.2000 Camaro V6
I\'ve done nothing to my car worth note. :)

That newegg.com website is so cheap! The only problem is that I can't find their shipping rates or policy for Canada. Like many other US sites the probably don't ship at all to this side of the border...story of my life. I'd also be worried about customs and duty.

Re: external hard drive?
I just did the live chat with one of the newegg.com customer service reps and apparently they don't ship at all to Canada. I'm seriously considering getting a P.O. box somewhere in upstate New York.
Anyone know of any similar sites that ship to or from Canada?

So there's favoritism because of your nationality? You should consult an attorney. Sounds like a great international lawsuit.
Or you could just move to where the people live.2000 Camaro V6
I\'ve done nothing to my car worth note. :)

Also, 75% of Canadians live within 120 miles of the US border, so its not like I live where the people aren't.
