Thinking about losing the camaro

I have a 94 3.4L A4 Camaro right now with 137K miles. Gas sucks, as is kind of expected with cars like these.

Looking into getting something something more fuel efficient, as well as more reliable. Also I want to get a manual because it's about time I learned how to drive one...

on monday. My dad used to have a 96 cavalier, and he vouches for them and recommended I check one out.

Anyone have experiences with cavaliers? Do you know about how good of a car they are?

Also other suggestions for a good economical car with decent sportyness? My budget is <6K, so pretty limited as to what I can get...

edit: That's <6K. DOH! Yeah, meant to say I have less than 6K, not more...

I had an 86 Z-24 that I put hella miles on. It was a pretty good car for me.

Ehhh, reluctant to get civics. I don't know why, but I'm just not a fan of them. Maybe a CRX or something like that, but plain jane civics just bother me for some reason. Maybe its because I've seen and heard too many ricers with those fart cannons.

I've seen alot of them break down and deteriorate...HOWEVER, mostly because they seem to be owned by first-time teenaged drivers...

IMO a cavy is not anywhere near sporty...what about a Celica?

I've considered Celicas, but so far the lowest mile Celica I can find in my area on autotrader is a 97 with 150K on it, and they're asking $5,100.

What about a dodge stratus? The newer ones are pretty good looking. Or you could get the very common grand am. I wouldn't do a cavy though, just because I don't really like them too much.

Now that I think about, why not just get another v6 camaro? The mpg really isn't that bad. Invest in a newer automobile too. Don't get one that is older just because it is cheap. Get one that you will keep for awhile with not too many miles on it. So why not get like a 97+ camaro (within ten years old) with the reliable 3800 series II engine and then do a few mods to it to help your gas milage out? Its sporty, reliable, less than 6k, and probably average mpg for a sport car.

I would sell you my car for 6k...it get 25 mpg city/highway ....immaculate condition.... if you're interested

The normal 2.2 is pretty slow. I wouldn't consider a cavalier if it werent a Z24.

I have a 2001 z24 with the 150hp 2.4L and a 5 speed. Its kinda fun to drive and gets 30mpg. Got some pep to it with 150 torque, decent at the low end too unlike alot of 4 bangers. Been reliable for me (2nd owner) and now has over 110k (on the original clutch!). It is funny how the z24 used to feel sporty... until I got the camaro, now when I get in the cav it feels so different

Cavaliers are not the best built cars. I think most tho should be able to last till 100k or so without alot of major problems, depending on who owned it.

You should be able to find a mid 90s BMW 3-series around your budget (<6k) too... I was leaning towards finding a bimmer before I got the camaro. There is alot of repair info and forums, and parts aren't so expensive on the internet.

If you have the $$ you should look at cars for sale by owner. It will stretch your dollar alot further

"more fuel efficient" is a reletive term, so you need to specify the target MPG
