statistically, the overall amount of deaths has stayed the same. the number of accidents has jumped while the fatalities/injuries per accident has gone down. apparently people tend to drive more aggressively with a seatbelt and thus crash more often.

and besides, i thought we'd never run out of things to piss mogobs off with... why revisit old topix?

you hit on something here - escalation. The safer and easier you make cars, the dumber people get. And people who used to be too afraid to drive or couldn't drive, now can. My wife's grandmother is 90. She can't see or hear, but she feels safe with her airbags, so she drives. BAD idea (and I tell her that all the time).

Are making cars safer and easier a good thing? Wouldn't people drive more sane if there was a big rusted spike in the steering wheel instead of an airbag?

back to your regularly scheduled thread already in progress:

yes, I always wear my seatbelt. I got in the habit when I owned a Wrangler. Now I feel weird w/o it.

The thought doesn't even enter my mind, get in car, seat belt, ignition.

I wrecked my first car not wearing a seatbelt...since that accident I have always worn my seatbelt...I tend to learn **** the hard way lol

but also, the seatbelt light may have a bad sensor, a previous vehicle seatbelt light was on all the time, even when i was buckled

Re: Do you wear your seatbelt?

Rarely....could care less if I do or don't. Reason why I would or wouldn't depends on my comfort in the car, and I am not a person that likes being restrained in a seat. Because the way I sit in the Monte, I usually don't wear it too often. Im not a small person by any means, so my seat is usually all the way back, with the front edge of the seat itself tipped all the way back, and the backrest tilted back a little. My mirrors accomodate me and me only, and I look out of them, EACH one of them, in a triangular fashion once every 10 seconds or so. If I move lanes, I look behind me, I do not trust mirrors. But because I like having some mobility in a car, I usually don't like wearing the seatbelt in the Monte. I have said it once and I will say it again, the decision to wear a seatbelt comes in a DISTANT 2nd to my comfort. And I can say that because after 10 years of driving, not once have I been in an at fault accident. Only times my car has been hit was when I had the Camaro, a lady backed into my car at an intersection, and she was completely disoriented and unfit to be behind the wheel of a car, and the other time was the Monte, which I wasn't even in the ****ing car when it got hit in the door.

I also disagree with the whole concept of defensive driving, its fuct up alot of peoples minds about driving.

ROFL!!! You make an interesting point.....

Driving without seatbelts on is real stupid.

Re: Do you wear your seatbelt?

i always do in my car, and mogobs you keep thinking that, you may be a good driver, but very few other people are, i am a firefighter, and i see the aftermath of these things, the people who werent wearing seatbelts come out in worse condition, or arent in the vehicle, i was at one where they guy did absolutely nothing wrong, driving on a highway, some lady blew the intersection going across (she had to have been scooting) and he ended up wraped around a stop sign DOA, he wasnt wearing his seatbelt he was ejected out his rear window, possibly side, it was difficult to tell, she got away a little banged up but she survived, it should have been the other way around, but he would have gotten away with very minor injuries if he had just took the second it takes to fasten his seatbelt, i have no doubt in my mind that he would have walked away from that one. that being said i admit when i am in one of my work trucks (f250 or ram3500 with a bigass enclosed work bed) i dont generally wear my seatbelt, i should, but its hard to do much to those to move them, if i go on a longer trip i do wear it in them, but do your local firefighters a favor and buckle up!

sometimes i do, mostly not. this is the only car that i get into that i dont feel uncomfortable not wearing it. during the day i drive 3 other trucks a van and an alero can even put them in gear with out it, the camaro alomost never wear it.

same hear. iv tried moving my car a few feet, from my outdoor parking slot to the garage, and it felt wierd not being strapped. its a habit ritual, open door, sit and turn lights on at same time, close door belt check mirrors, ignition
