So.. I've had my eye on a local '96 black trans am 6spd.. and I finally got a quote for it today...the weird this is, my insurance would go down with it? :poke:

It seems like there would be a logical explanation for it, but ive checked everything.. I entered everything right and the car would only have liability, but my current camaro is the same.

I just dont know, it seems like going from a '99 v6 automatic to a 96' v8 6pd would be killer on insurance for a 17 year old, but i just dont know.

Anyone have any ideas? I have geico btw, along with the rest of my family.

You know what that says? Theres more people out there your age crashing V6's rather then V8's, lol.

It makes sense. Id say statistically, the age range 16-20 is more likely to be driving a 6 then an 8...

Insurance is a weird thing. Its cheaper to insure my GTO than my Subaru, and that makes no sense to me. Especially when the Subaru has much more safety options. So all I can think is, only old farts drive goats and aren't getting in big accidents :)

just wondering, but how much is your insurance on the GTO? one of my spoiled friend's parents bought him a GTO and he said the insurance wasnt bad, but i thought he was just hiding how much he was spoiled.

see, i'm planning on buying this '96 black Z28 M6 and i checked with the insurance company. It turned out that i would be paying $20 less every 6 months on that than my '00 A4 Camaro. The only thing i have to do is sell my car haha.

I can tell you here in New Jersey it's nuts for a guy to own a sports car. I'm 22, going to be 23 next month and I pay 2893.00 a year with a co-sign with my mother for a 1998 V6 Firebird (A4). For the 1985 Berlinetta-Camaro (V6 as well and for sale) I have I paid 2457.00 a year. My mother can't insure the 1987 Corvette she has in New Jersey. They wanted an arm and a leg for it at around 8700 a year. She said screw it, and got classic car insurance on it. She doesn't drive it much, so it makes no difference to her if she has 2000 mile per year limit on it.

When I was 22 I was going to buy a 96' z28, even with me on my parents insurance it was going to be $315.00 a month, so I got what I have now 96' 3.8. I still paid $150 a month back then. Now almost 12 years later I pay $50 a month full coverage with free glass and towing. Of course I'm 33 own a house and 2 cars now. But I thought it was crazy back then for insurance. My insurance payment a month would of been almost as much as my car payment.

Well, I'm not really sure how you can compare it. I have two cars on my insurance, 07 Legacy GT and 05 GTO, and Im 25 and pay 1080 a year for full coverage on both. Im guessing the GTO alone would be about 800 or 900 a year.
