Home Theater Surround Receiver..decision..

A while ago now I was testing a speaker out for a friend and it turned out to be shorted and blew my receiver in a small cloud of smoke..
Since then i've had nothing to power my system. Watching movies on TV speakers is nothing after experiencing a good surround system.

So I've decided to set aside $200 so I can pick up a new receiver.

I'm looking for something with the S-video and optical audio inputs and it seems that most of the options in the price range lack those features.

Any suggestions or input is appreciated!

I would personally go with this one. It is also a yamaha, but offers more features as well as rms wattage per speaker. It has both of the inputs you seek. and its nt that much more. Good luck.

you can get ones with more wattage and with speakers for less than that at walmart.

wattage isn't everything. I already have a powered subwoofer and over $700 in speakers sitting around my tv with no receiver to power them.

The thing about this one though, is the fact that almost nothing is compatible with 6.1 surround sound. I've got enough speakers but don't really have a place for the rear center. I'm thinking i'll probably stick with 5.1. The wattage difference is only 5W per channel on that anyway so it's nothing to get excited about.

why do you want s-video inputs?? You should use component cables whenever possible, and most dvd players and other components that have s-video outs also have component cable out (the red green blue plugs).

Components would be nice too, but as it is now, my satallite receiver has S-video and optical audio, and i'm using my xbox as the dvd player currently which i have S-video monster cables hooked up to. The TV has got component inputs, but as it is now I don't have anything that supports the components.
