An LT1 will tear up the V6. No stock V6 Camaro is running 14.6's, so no, they are more than a second slower. Once the bolt ons are out of the way on both cars, the LT1 will annihilate the V6.
Yet the reliability between the two is no contest. The 3.8l has FAR more reliability, less maintenece costs, and isn't THAT much slower. Some nitrous and the LT1 wouldn't stand a chance.

I thought I should add that I am currently trying to sell my camaro locally...but everytime I get some one serious, they hear V6 and run away, I explain how good the 3.8 is but no matter what, it is still a V6...
as far as the LT1 vs V6...perf. wise, thats hands down IMO

but I am willing to bet a stock lt1 is more reliable then a nitroused v6

Id rather have a nitroused V6 with 100k than an LT1 with 100k on the odometer.
Remember something, there hasn't been an LT1 made in 10 years, so unless this thing has LOW LOW miles, its reliability is questionable. Don't get me wrong, the LT1 is a strong motor, but I have heard nothing but costly repairs from owners after they hit 100k or so many years old.
Now if the 25k "supposedly" on this engine is a REBUILT 25k mile LT1, I would run far from it. And if this LT1 is to be a daily driver, I wouldn't make the trade personally.
The only reason I would get an LT1 over your car is just for the exhaust note and just to say I have a Trans Am. If it is going to be your only vehicle I wouldn't.
yah but there are many lt1 engines out there . and there now are a lot of seasoned blocks to make a good start for a buildup . reliablity i think a v6 and a v8 is about the same there both and internal combustion engines that are going to wear out and need parts . so it has an optisark so what . if it was a hei you'd still be replacing a cap and rotor at 30000 intervals so this just last a little longer .
Sorry but the Buick 3.8 is hands down one of the most reliable motors ever put into a GM. The LT1 is a great motor, in fact I almost put one in my malibu. I just know I've seen a few dragraces in person where the stock LT1 was beat by a very softly modified 3.8l. I think some people forgot that my point was a crappy LT1 is not better than a good 3.8l. If they were both equal in condition then I'd go LT1 but as far as the topic at hand... he said the car needed some minor work. The 3.8 gets better gas mileage as well :)

A BUICK 3.8l is not the same engine as the Series II. Its almost comparing the GM 3800 to the Ford 3800, only similarity between the Buick engine and the Series II is displacement. So im kinda confused here as to what you are comparing it to?

I find it hard to believe that a v6 3.8 would be faster than an lt1 . that would defeat the whole purpose of having a v8 option in the car . the lt1 has a low end pull that a 3.8 doesnt .i would know because i've owned both . I love my lt1 it's a whole lot better than the 3.8 . and as far as bring this back on topic just cause it has 100,000 on it doesnt mean that the motor is trashed . I've torn down motors with 350,000 miles on them and they had little to no block wear .
And my 96 putts out 285 hp and 330 trq factory , not before a couple of modes to open up the motor .
and the 3.8 only puts out 200 hp and maybe 200 trq on it's best day . hardly compares to to the lt1 in that aspect

when you run the vins of 3.8l series II cars it will show up as a buick v6 engine. ;)
However it is not the same engine as what came in Grand Nationals and such if that is what was being hinted at

When I pop the hood, it says 3800 Series II.
Now...do not misunderstand me, if the LT1 had less than 100k on it, I would probably be all over it. I am trying to compare the car he has now, to the car he is wanting to trade for. He has a 96 3.8l, and to all accounts, has taken very good care of it. He is wanting to trade that for an 1994 TA LT1 car, with 107k on the body, an UNVERIFIED 25k on a possibly rebuilt engine, and 2k on a transmission. In my honest opinion, I would not do this trade.

Haven’t done anything on the Camaro, but put LEDs on my truck headlights . And my oil pressure sensor went out on the truck so going to fix that this...
