  • Considering a Trade for a Ferrarri

Someone I know has a mint 1985 hard top Testarossa and is considering a sale. He wants a convertible instead. The car only has 10,000 miles and has been stored in his garage with many other collector cars. We talked for a while and he said he would consider a trade for my modified 96' Camaro after I told him that I have about the same amount into my car as the value of his. The Testarossa is bright red and a 12 cylinder. The motor is in the rear of the car. It is completely stock. I believe it is 390 hp. I sat in it and everything felt good.

I'm not sure if that will completely fit the bill for me in the way of power. I would like something that is comparable to the 96'. Yet I'd like the car to be naturally aspirated. I am going to take my car to his house sometime this week to make the comparison between vehicles. At least I know (if he likes my car), that if I do decide to part with it, it would go to a collector who would take very good care of it.

I know that car was probably the fastest of it's time back then, but now, I think it's about average for a "fast" car. It was 20 years ahead of it's time, if you think about it.

    Opinions?

    It looks like this:

I would def do it just for the fact that you are getting a collectors car for a collectors car. Your car may be worth alot more in the future, but you know for a fact the ferrari will be worth alot. You don't wanna be 10 years down the road and wishing you made the deal.

As far as power... I don't think the ferrarri would be my choice to drive a whole lot. You can always find another project to get the speed you want and keep the ferrari.

Not really.. the engine in that thing was designed in the late 60s...

Whether or not an even trade is in the mix, remains to be seen, of course. Ferrarri or not, we are talking a mid 13 second car that is 22 years old compared to an 11 second car that is 11. Still, I would have to figure all of that out with the guy. Even if he wanted the trade + money.

An oil change on the Ferrari costs $1,000 bucks. The motor has to come out. That's when they also do a valve adjustment. I'm going to call about insurance. Looks like it is a costly car to keep. Only gets 11 mpg on a good day.

yeah... it would really seem pretty nuts to turn down tht trade, unless he wanted a ton of cash too. I mean, that ferrari will always be worth something. a v6 camaro, no matter now unique, is not a rare car.

unless you need your camaro as a daily driver, i'd go for it... i mean, its a ferrari.. nothing practical about it...

Yeah, I know... that's why it's a difficult decision to make. (I am VERY attached to my 96'.) I'm trying to do more research on these vehicles to find out why they are so special. I mean, you can buy a C6 for that price and probably run faster no problem.
