Just got back from Chevy Rev It Up. It was awesome!
It’s an autocross competition to win a 08 C6. You get two runs in a Cobal SS then the top 25 are invited back tonight to compete again in a C6. The C6 times are then ranked nationally. They also had other Chevys there to test drive on autocross courses.
You walk into the entrance and you walk by a car club section. It was full of GTOs, F-bodys, and Corvettes. After that it was off to the driver meeting. They went over some pretty basic stuff and you found out what time your two competitive runs would start.
I had about 40 minutes before my first run then an hour after that until my second run. To kill the first 40 minutes I test drove a Cobalt SS Supercharged. It was alright, nothing special. I really hated how close the clutch was to the brake. I definitely hit clutch when I was braking for a turn.
The first competitive run went alright. I hated the automatic transmission and my braking needed some work, but it landed me in the top 25.
To kill the next hour I drove C6s, talked to some random people, checked out all the random stuff, and watched other people’s competitive runs.
They had a bunch of cool stuff on display. The new Camaro, the LS7.R, a C6R, various race cars that didn’t interest me, and a few other engines with cutaways.
The #4 C6R was really cool in person. It sounds amazing. I nearly had to change my pants after they reved it.
My 2nd competitive run went a little better with carrying speed and braking. The transmission still wasn’t in the gear I wanted on a few turns though. Overall I knocked some time off and was still ranked top 25.
Then I headed over to the Z06. That thing sounds amazing. I got a ride in it with a professional driver. He ran well into 2nd gear took a few sharp turns then drifted it around the final turn back into the staging lanes. I really want his job. It was a fun experience riding in the Z even though you weren’t allowed to drive them.
If I’m still ranked top 25 they will call me and I’ll head back to compete in C6s. I’m not holding my breath though.
