I have a '97 Y87 V6 M5. Removed the spare tire/jack and running 205/70R15 snow tires. I have a cold air intake, spec aluminum flywheel and stg. 3 clutch, one-piece driveshaft, no EGR and stock manifolds out to an open high-flow cat. yeah its loud. I believe I bought the car bone stock. I have taken it to the track and pulled low 14s consistantly. Best time was 14.2@97, before swapping the drive shaft out for a one-piece. I recently ran it against my friend's '07 Mustang GT and took him by about a car and a half. The car idles around 1,000RPM and lopes slightly on startup. I have yet to tear the engine apart for the stroker kit, but I'm thinking it's got more work done to it? What do you think? Everyone I know thinks my car is a factory freak.

Re: Factory freak? too fast for what I have done?
I'd say it's got a cam in it. I noticed mine too lopes somewhat at start-up, and it idles at 1K as well, but I'm no where near the times you have. I'm running 15.1 at 90+ degrees, spinning with a F'd up MAF :(~97 3.8L V6 Camaro~

Re: Factory freak? too fast for what I have done?
I was thinking about the possibility of a cam or rockers, but the tune is stock. still cuts out at 118, etc... I've driven other V6 camaros though and it's not even close to mine. I'll post a video of acceleration from inside the car. I'm hitting 60 in 5.x easily without a powershift into 2nd or a disgusting launch. Stock 3.23 gears, LSD from the y87 helps too I bet. How fast are these 5speed Y87s stock though? I've heard anything from high 14s to mid 15s for the hard top 5speeds like mine\'97 Camaro M5 Y87 3.23 LSD, homebrew CAI, highfloCat, Flowmaster catback, Pacesetter headers, specstage3 clutch and aluminum flywheel, !egr, 2kW system.

Possible L67 bottom end w/ abbott heads and a turbo in the works... gotta do more homework

Well either way, sounds like my friend and I are going to Englishtown NY raceway park. I have two spare tires that I plan on using as makeshift skinnies and I will drop the rear tires to about 25PSI. 13 second runs? That would be something else, considering my boy who's got a '99 V6 vert is still struggling to get into the 15s.\'97 Camaro M5 Y87 3.23 LSD, homebrew CAI, highfloCat, Flowmaster catback, Pacesetter headers, specstage3 clutch and aluminum flywheel, !egr, 2kW system.

Possible L67 bottom end w/ abbott heads and a turbo in the works... gotta do more homework

was this in the 1/4 or 1/8 :)
seriously I have to call :bs: until I see a time sheet and pics of your car... nothing against you but its unlikely to be true (I mean the chances are slim) that its stock. If it is then thats really cool and you need to go ahead and throw on a turbo :)

I wouldn't doo that, you will likely get booted from the track...
Donuts are generally rated to 45 mph and thats it.
I am willing to bet you have some other mods, unless you are cutting 1.8s But still fast times for a v6

I doubt it's stock. I'm not sure what is done but in either case I am going to raceway park in Englishtown first chance I get and I will post timeslips and a video.\'97 Camaro M5 Y87 3.23 LSD, homebrew CAI, highfloCat, Flowmaster catback, Pacesetter headers, specstage3 clutch and aluminum flywheel, !egr, 2kW system.

Possible L67 bottom end w/ abbott heads and a turbo in the works... gotta do more homework

Re: Factory freak? too fast for what I have done?
It barely lopes, like it does for a second then it smooths out pretty much. I'm cutting 1.9 - 2.0 60' times on my 205/70 kelly winterforce snows on 15s.
open cat, no catback. it's loud.Last edited by JohnnyC; 08-15-2007, 06:27 PM.\'97 Camaro M5 Y87 3.23 LSD, homebrew CAI, highfloCat, Flowmaster catback, Pacesetter headers, specstage3 clutch and aluminum flywheel, !egr, 2kW system.

Possible L67 bottom end w/ abbott heads and a turbo in the works... gotta do more homework

Re: Factory freak? too fast for what I have done?
I kind of have a feeling my car isn't stock.. I don't know what, but it doesn't seem the same as all the other stock v6 camaros. I got the car with like 40k and 2 previous owners, and they had this paintjob on it.. (TBH I don't know why you would spend money on paint like that and not touch anything else.)
It looks completely stock to me but it doesn't really feel like it. I'm thinking they maybe changed the gears or something? I have no idea. But I can put the pedal 3/4 to the floor and burn out going straight. I've heard some other people say they can't do it whatsoever. I can't tell if it's like the thread starter and it's just a factory freak or if it's just modified in some way that I don't know.. because tbh I haven't checked very much. I need to bring it to the track but we only have like a 1/8 around here.
