ok, i have never seen an automatic overdrive (like on my car). but, i did some searching and found most people like it better for racing and it gets better MPG. so why is there even a drive? if its slower and less efficient... oh and i also found a thread where most people seemed to think it was ok to shift from D to neutral and back, on the highway to rev it... ive always been told not to shift from neutral or park when reving as it may damage the tranny...
Drive is just 3rd gear in an automatic. It's a 1:1 ratio gear in our car. As far as racing is concerned it makes no difference in my car. The car will hold whatever gear it needs as long as it can. Mine shifts into 3rd (or Drive ["D"]) at abour 74-75. I don't know how far Drive will pull before it shifts into overdrive, something like a 0.76:1 ratio. I do know that my the torque convertor never locks in under WOT though.
Car goes from 1st-2nd, 2nd-3rd(Drive), 3rd(Drive)-4th(Overdrive), 4th with TC lockup. Four "shifts".
Did you miss this post? The 4L60E has 4 gears. Some people feel the torque convertor lockup. This is the extra "shift" they feel. It's not a shift at all, but the RPMs do drop about 200 or so. Check out that link if you wanna know more.
I had been watching this happen on my auto for 10 months now going up a 5% grade To work everyday as i roll up to roughly 40-45 feathering the gas pedal an i go from 1800 RPMs to 1600 RPMs without feeling an actual shift. I thought it was just the computer doing some gas saving technique. I'm a fricking moron. Least now i know.
Not much going on, replaced my Kenwood double din stereo with a Pioneer double din, the Kenwood had problems. Then replaced my power inverter for my reverse...
