  • New here - been lurking!

Well, I finally got registered. I have been reading and reading in this forum, it is a treasure trove for V6 info.

I am buying a '99 Camaro, actually from a member here. V6, 5 speed, lots of mods, thus saving me the effort, because I was going to anyway. I have "old-school" hot rod experience (old Chevelles, GTO, etc - even had a '76 Camaro once) Nice to be venturing into a more modern "hotrod" world. I want to venture into autocross at some point. I've also built several old motorcycles over the years.

I'm in Wisconsin at the moment, but am moving to Tucson soon.

I look forward to learning and contributing.

    Jeff

His handle is Deucebigs. Really nice guy. The car has some things I will have to fix (tranny swap and a clutch), but I'm happy to do it. He is giving me a great deal.

Here's a pic. (He took it). I of course will take many more as I go along.

I don't plan on doing much appearance wise, maybe white rally stripes. I like the "factory" look.

            :wavey: welcome!

you're gonna find that a lot of the "old muscle" guys will give you weird responses once they find out its a six and then kinda act all high and mighty but it doesnt take very much to unlock a fair amount of HP with these engines. New heads, an good intake and exhaust and cam, ~2000-2500 bucks and you're running with the 02 SS's. Love or hate the v6, i think except the IROC, it can beat any prior year v8 up till the LT1... or at least run nicely with them. and you dont get completely screwed on insurance.

these motors are bulletproof. check out all the "calling all hi milage cars" threads. i'm almost to 125k and never had a problem engine-wise (tho i've killed my entire steering system... twice )

              Welcome! :wavey:

It looks like you are getting a pretty nice car. Do you have any pictures of your old cars?

Hook up with your local SCCA chapter. Autocross is fun.

No, I kick myself, but no pics of the old stuff. I started out with a '67 GTO out of High School. I've also had a '67 Chevelle with 327, 3speed trans. '70 Challenger, '76 Camaro LT (305 V8 2bbl - notably 60 hp shy of the L36 from the factory!) The 3.8 is plenty of motor, and the insurance break is nice, though I have a clean driving record, and am 38 and married, etc., so insurance isn't too bad.

Also helped my dad build his 9 second '62 Chevy II drag car.

Here is my latest project - it's for sale, incidentally. A '77 Harley Sportster I built from 3 crates of parts to look like a WWII scout bike. Needs some finishing, but it's a blast, and gets lots of attention. I rode it to work today, in fact.

                      Thanks!

I just posted an OT plug for the sale of it. I hate to sell, but these things happen sometimes. I do, after all, have bonafide Camaro fever.

Thanks! It really was fun to build.

I posted an ad in the for sale section of this forum, and it has a link to a very descriptive classified listing at a Sportster forum.
