I have a 2000 3.8 Camaro with 102k miles, I owe $3700 on it. Its worth approx $5000 trade in and 6k retail in my area. I have $6000 cash on me. I want an LS1 more than anything. My credit is pretty poor, what is the best method to obtaining an Ls1 camaro? Should I just do an engine swap? I have a family friend who offered to do the swap with me over a course of a weekend. I really dont know what to do :(.

      Re: Dilemma

As in I'm going to need to swap a ton of parts?

I can pick up a complete LS1 for $850 with PCM, Wiring harness, and accesseries like alternator p/s pumps etc.

What else needs to be swapped over? Brakes? Suspension?

        Re: Dilemma

        youll need a different k-member

suspension should be fine seeing as how light the LS1's are.

tranny will need to be different and everything that goes in between. :work:

swap would be the hardest, but the cheapest and im not really sure its a weekend project.
but i have seen ls1s any where from 9k-13k in pretty good conditon.

                Re: Dilemma

Even with poor credit, a 5k dollar trade in and 6k dollar down payment for a nice LS1 car is definatley do-able.

Pretty much the way they see it:

Hi, i have poor credit, can i have this car no down payment? = No.

Hi, i have poor credit, i really want this car and to show you that im not going to just default on it right away, heres my 5k dollar trade in, and a nice 6k dollar down payment = Congrats on the new car Injected413

                11k dollars off you'd only be financing 5k dollars-ish.

Yes, you may get a higher interest rate for not having good credit, but this would also be your best bet to improve your credit, so the next time you want a car your not in the same dilemma.

I think that would be overall the best idea, doing a swap is expensive, time consuming and you still have a v6 car with a v8 swap the numbers dont match and it will probably give you alot of trouble / h3ll and more problems then you want.
And in the end you have an ls1 and you can look back at your v6 days.
