So... Detroit (suburbs) are losing it for me. Cost of living is going up everywhere here and pay continues to plummet. Have not had a raise in 4 years and heat in this area alone will go up another 6-10% over last year.

So I'm looking for jobs outside of MI right now. I need some info from people around the country.

Looking at Denver (downtown) and Miami and Hollywood.

I need what it actually costs to live in these places. Not living in da hood either. Right now I live in a nice "country" type community north of Detroit. My drive is 25 miles one way, all freeway. In an apt with detached garage for keeping my toys. I can get to any store/fastfood/mall in 10 mins or less. I can also see deer and other critters in my yard.

What does it cost to live in these areas?


(first one to mock, post bad things, or in general something I don't like.... be warned)

Just curious, what kind of job do you have? I know that can play a major role on what city people will move to.

long island, ny is pretty pricey here. for a 1-2 bedroom apartment in a complex, nice neighborhood is about 1100-1600 a month here. everything is real close, fast foods, malls, about 4 grocery stores a town. gas is 2.91 regular by me, houses for a nice 3-4 bedroom good town is about 350-450k

In IT right now. specifically Sr. Helpdesk Eng. But have over 15 yrs of exp with Apple products and also Cert. Apple. Make a modest pay, but nothing like Tom does... Nor would I really want to. The stress would kill me. I would go to our Midtown operations office (UBS building) but I would never make enough :p

if your looking for cheap living and tons of new building popping up daily, move to arizona. you dont even have to mow your own lawn :D
15 minutes from my house theres 3 malls, mcdonolds, burger king, 3 autozones, 1 advanced auto, 4 schools, the 202, the 101, the us 60, the I10, 2 or 3 gyms.

down where im at cooper city FL, (20 mins away from miami and hollywood) you can get a pretty nice apartment for like 1k a month. therse actually a few selling around here...

and location is absolutely great. theres food anywhere you go, i mean **** i can walk to shopping plazas in a good 20-30 mins...

and drive to them in 5 (most of the time being taken up having to go 25mph in the stupid neighborhood)

its a nice neighborhood here too, well taken care of :P

as far as jobs go.. theres always jobs available lol.. like my dad just got this job at a collection agency pays 1k a week + bonuses

newspaper + monster.com=the **** :P

im pretty sure like best buy, comp usa (computer places)
pay around 13 an hour

all depends on what your looking to do

Meaty... i keep seeing that AZ is maxed out on it's housing market, similar to MI right now. Lots of new houses, but no one to buy them.

let me correct myself... Denver, CO / Miami, FL / Hollywood, CA

What I'm looking for would be similar to Sys Admin or Project Engineer or Systems Engineer. Perfect job would be being the Sr Sys Admin on Mac side of life. Unfortunely Pixar has standards :D

Pay would have to above 20/hr.... like well above it ;)

I was asking for those three locations for a reason. I've found job postings for those locations. Finding something in NY or Silicon valley is easy. BUT I know I can't live in either of those locations.

Not in Detroit or Michigan. We need a new Mayor(city of detroit) and Governor around here. :rant:
