Perhaps run for Mayor or Governor? :)

Have you considered the Raleigh/Durham area of NC? I understand there has been an increase in tech jobs down there over the last few years. The overall feel of the area is nice too.

Northern Va has a ton of tech jobs, but I seriously doubt you would like the extremely high priced housing market and the urban sprawl.

Agree, Google is now building a NOC down there. But none of the search engines are showing any job postings down there right now for what I'm looking for. I did unfortunately miss out on a sweet position in TN, because my resume was not ready and position was filled. :(

No thank you... they've made a serious mess that I doubt will be fixed anytime soon.

Well St. Louis probably isn't what you're looking for. I'm sure its pretty much the same as Detriot.

Columbia (where i'm at) seems to fit into your description of where you live right now.

Have you thought at looking at towns with large colleges in them? I know MU has a huge tech department.

Colleges don't really seem to fit my mold. As much as I hate to say it.. higher stress enviroments work better for me... as long as the pay goes with it.

Have you looked at Orlando? I've seen 2 bed 2 bath apartments for as little as $645 a month in good neighborhoods. 3 theme parks with in 30 miles and oceans on either side 90 minutes away.

I know its not on your list of places but Louisville is really cheap compared to other places of same size. You can get a 1500sf home for 150k easy in a nice neighborhood. In a subdivision its gonna go up a bit of course. You sound like your looking for a place like Mount Washington KY, its about a 25 minute drive South of Louisville. Also a around there called Shepardsville. Its all Bullet County I beleive. Don't look into Shelby county to the West of Louisville, full of illegal immigrants, where I'm at.

Not against KY at all.. it's close enough to wheeling, nice roads for the bike... and VERY little snow :D

CHICAGOLAND. If you can't find an IT job here that pays well, you're f'ing blind. There are MANY IT people here, some on this board, some on others, some you might remember. But IT pays well here from what I can see, and they are ALWAYS looking for more.

BTW, there are 2,800 IT jobs on www.careerbuilder.com in the Chicagoland area.

Its not that lonng :P Besides being inland you dont get hardly any of the hurricane. I've been through 6 hurricanes and all we got was rain. Occasional 50 mph gust but thunderstorms do that. Miami gets hit pretty good.

Yeah.. 2800 of them and 4 deal with Apple related product

I hate the idea of being a contract whore.... did it for too many years, but that seems to be what is out there. No company seems to want to keep their data intact and secure with FT employees... they want to be able to sue someone if the contractor steals corporate secrets....

Ok.. we are getting off topic about jobs specifically.

I asked about 3 areas of the country and cost of living... back on topic. :)

With the technology available, I'd go for a home-based position.

I'm currently interviewing with several outfits all over the country; I've had no problems negotiating the "home-office" scenario.

Based on my experience, your locales are a little pricey IMO.
