Yes, it would be more, but at the same time, YOU can control what you do with your insurance, the policy, the premiums, whatever. I hate giving control to something I pay for to someone else. I never had a policy on my parents, simply because I wanted to control what I could do with it.
You come down to three choices here. Either you pay the ticket, and get dropped by your parents, which IMO is a shady BS move by them, fight the ticket, and risk getting fined even more, and STILL end up with points on your ticket, and STILL lose your insurance,......or pay the damn ticket, and get your own policy. Either way, I think you should be on your own policy, don't let your parents control what you pay and how your insurance works. Thats up to you, you are 19, shouldn't be up to them.

rt1 makes a good point that I didn't think about. If the officer said anything about cutting you a break already, do not contest it. He already helped you out. Showing up will make you look greedy. I never get breaks on the side of the road. They either let me go, and give me the full ticket when I then contest.
