    Re: A little physics help?

Its not dynamics either, its statics. Use moments, sum of forces, etc...

Yeah, definitely statics. I completely got carried away there. We did use that stuff alot in dynamics though.

I guess since I had dynamics more recently than statics.... I definitely momentown'd myself.

Figure out the man's weight from the tension in the line (including the 30kg weight in the center, 15kg on each line). Once you get his weight, you can calculate the tension in the other line.

That, and this less than awesome picture, is all I can give you.

Werd, I'm taking statics now so it caught my eye. Dynamics next semester, can't wait! Sike...

Pssh! statics was REALLY easy for me... i dont know why. I'm in solids right now and i just keep overthinking the problems. Dynamics can slob on my knob...

I loved both Statics and Dynamics.... Dynamics even more.... except for angular velocity. That stuff will make you hate life.

                      b should be 112kg

if i had the distance the painter is from some given point, im sure we could sort that one out pretty quickly.

                        Re: A little physics help?

                        like silvachris posted,

Painter is 1.1m from the right side, or 0.9m from the middle. To avoid changing units, call the 30kg 133.5N.

i haven't had a chance to work on it, I'm still at work.

so find the moment around the left side. im not sure what a n/t translates into. is that a moment measurement?

                          at any rate. MsubT = 0 = (133.5(2) + (x(4-1.1) - (rope tension(4)

                          sort it out

                              How bout this one....

There are two trains 50 miles apart. Train A and Train B leave their towns at the exact same time, traveling their given speeds instantly. Train A travels at 20mph, Train B at 30mph. A random hummingbird decides to race with the trains. The hummingbird can travel 100mph. He leaves beside Train A at the same time, and flys to meet Train B. He immediately flys directly back to meet the Train A, and then goes back and forth between the two. How many miles will the hummingbird travel before the trains collide?

                              See the attached image.

And yes, I have a life, this took all of 2 minutes.
