If I didn't smoke, there would be more dead people in my near vicinity.

with a 3.8 GPA you could get a scholarship for grad school. Many schools will pay you to go to grad school...not so much for Masters, but Phd students do just fine.

Oh believe me, I investigated that option - I had a fellowship for Carnegie Mellon lined up (years ago now). Unfortunately, I owed so much money for my undergrad, that the stipend wasn't even enough to cover my loan payments, let alone live on. By the time I had those loans paid off, I was well entrenched in a good career, owned a house, etc.

                  Re: study drugs

Technically, the use of adderall in a scenario like that is considered drug abuse. Does that really stop people from using? No. Theft and abuse of these prescribed drugs is a big problem at my school, next to binge drinking, etc. It's to the extent that people have their prescriptions stolen from their rooms, cars, and even work.

In regard to the question, what's done is done. But if depending on a substance is something you need to pass your classes, then you might want to rethink your scheduling and study habits. Tell your roommate and friends that you need to study, find a quiet place where you can focus on your work without distractions, and stock up on some caffeine and sugar to keep you up (or whatever else works). And don't procrastinate too much, that's what gets me. The problem with drugs like adderall is that they cause dependency. People use it a couple times, realize how efficient they were under its influence, and turn to it again and again.

I was offered some pills from a friend earlier this month. I turned them down, not really wanting to depend on them to get work done. And sure, at times I wished I'd taken them after all. But after turning in my final paper at 6am this morning, I found that it was better knowing that I can do all the work on my own. Sure it could have saved me some sleep and allowed me to avoid pulling several all-nighters this past week, but I'm better off without it.

i think the adderall stuff doesnt do it for me. makes me wacky kinda, cant ever go to sleep until i get wasted and pass out. I thought the same, tried it to see if i could do better, but IT never helped me study. just my 2 cents.

                      Re: study drugs

yeah, ive only tried it twice... EXTREME circumstances.
as i said, before coming to college, i was extremely against the whole idea.
i had the bright idea of taking a 300 level international security class first semester freshman year. when he gave us three 6-8 page papers for the final... i had no idea what to do. took some focalin.

this is the second time, and its just because i had two 12 page papers for one class due in the same week. (the second one was assigned less than a week ago)

im filing for a room change when i get back in january. i almost knocked my roommate out last night when he stumbled in at 2, hammered, and i was trying to finish up my paper (no adderall either...) and he wouldnt shut up.
