  • I'm getting collector's insurance!!! YAY!!!

After years of getting ripped off with minimal coverage on my modified 96' Camaro I applied for collector's insurance. I'm limited to about 2-3,000 miles per year (which is no problem) and I will have the car insured for it's value not "book value" which is a ridiculous $6,000 or so. I am so excited about this... I got accepted and it's only going to cost me $313 a year now!! Since my car didn't "quite fit the criteria" of being an older collector car, I was required to submit pictures, magazine articles and a list of modifications along with a copy of my previous insurance statement. I saved at least $300 and now have FULL COVERAGE along with MY determined Value of the car. Anyone who is thinking along this route should definately try and do the same!

This is something I didn't inquire about. Who checks the odometer? The insurance company? If that's the case...no problem at all. They are just down town from me and the guy I'm dealing with is real nice.

Yeah, I had to drive over to my insurance company. It is not like they were far more me either, it was just yet another thing on the list of s--t to do.

My insurance company here in MA is a ways away, so I have yet to convert the insurance. I may pull it off for the winter and deal with it in the spring.

Ok, thanks for the tip on that. When do they usually want to see the mileage? (I don't take the car out in the winter and that's when my policy ends/starts- Jan 17). I wonder if that matters... I'll have to ask about that.

Best way to go... once my malibu hit 25+ years old applied to get classic collectors insurance and it was 250 dollars a year. I had no limit on mileage, but I did have to show proof that the car is in good shape.

I looked into this a little while ago. Def. a good idea if you don't drive your car very often though...

However, I didnt qualify based on my age at the time (24).. Just some food for thought..

My dad has collectors insurance on the '63 continental and collectors liability on the '68 mustang that's parked in the garage and has been for a while. The mustang runs like 7 bucks a month IIRC. Course that's with 6 cars, 6 houses and a trailer on the same policy.
