  • Do you take it off?

Your head unit's detachable faceplate. :D I always take it off when I'm not parking at home, even though I park in a parking garage at work. I'd take my subs and amp in too if my windows weren't tinted.

Re: Do you take it off?

i have an indash dvd player. when i park in the city or a not so nice area, i retract the screen in, so it looks like a regular cd-player.

theres a local fbody guy that runs a shop. when i left my car with him for a while, everytime i would show up to check on it he would have taken the face plate off and hid it...

Only if I'm in a bad area. In that case, I just take it off and stick it in the center storage compartment.

.....what's the point of taking it off? You can get faceplates off eBay for like $4, so the thief will be able to use/pawn the CD player, they'd just have to wait a few days. Mine never comes off. If they get into the car, I think they'll be more interested in my $800 laptop, set of keys to all my other vehicles, and my wallet than my JVC CD player.

You leave all that crap in your car?

And the faceplate thing..I bought my car with an after market deck that a bunch of the buttons didn't work. I bought a new (used) faceplate off ebay for it for like $50 bucks. it fixed it until the player went out..but it was no $4 faceplate.

My old excellon or however its spelled used to fold the faceplate into itself, it looked like nothing was there so I never bothered. Besides in the dyt they just steal the whole damn car anyway.

No joke. When I was pretty much living out of my car, I had so much stuff in there. Just about everything I owned. All my clothes, a $1000 laptop w/ accessories, about $300 in computer games, $3-400 in CDs (which I no longer use thanks to the iPod), the sub system, a guitar, a 5h!tload of knives, swords, and other assorted weapons, a 98 Custom Pro paintball gun with laser pointer, CAR stock, rigged splice sling, 14oz tank, and mask, and random other items worth little individually. I was so glad I found a place to stay. That was a tragic break in waiting to happen.
