  • The Remote doesn't work anymore.

Ok this might be a very stupid question so please don't flame me for it but the remote on my car for the alarm system no longer is like working anymore. Its most likely a dead battery.

I thought about riping apart the unit but before I distory it has anyone else like done it before and fixed it? If so how easy if not where in the hell can I get it fixed? What iam I looking at for repairs?.

My neighbors think that someone is stealing my car and the problem is I have maybe a few seconds to get in and start the car before the alarm goes off if not then its gonna look like iam stealing my own ride:rolleyes:

just make sure your neighbor doesn't have a shotgun :)

I put my key fob remote in the wash one time.

it was 50 bucks for a new fob / programming the fob to the current alarm

Sometimes the key fob can get a little "out of sync" with the receiver of the security alarm on your car. Mine went bad one night after a football game, 300 miles away from home. Apparently pushing any of the buttons too many times while being out of range of your car can cause the thing to lose the correct signal. Have you tried reprogramming it? That's all I did with mine, and it worked just fine. And definitely beats having to pay $50 for the dealership to figure it out or looking like a fool when the alarm goes off every time you get into the car.

Try looking it up in the owner's manual. If it turns out to be the battery, then I'll leave that for others with more experience to help you.

The battery is way easy to replace. I use my door key to pry open the key fob. Just pops apart and the battery is very easily replaced.

before you go at it though, try "resynchronizing" the remote. Get in range of the car, and hold the "lock" and "unlock" buttons down for i think it's 15 seconds. The car locks and unlocks to tell you it was successful. If it doesn't after 30 seconds, replace the battery and try it again to see if it works.

Try the $3 dollar battery replacement first, chances are, it just died. If it's not dead, and it does just need reprogrammed, at least you wont have to replace the battery again later.

To replace the battery, take the key ring off the fob, then look on the bottom edge of the fob near the ringlet, you'll see a groove there with a curved shape. Use a flat screwdriver to pry the upper and lower halves of the fob apart (a coin may also work if you're in a pinch). Then once the two pieces are seperated, you can remove the battery from the fob, and replace it with one that has the same number on it. Reverse the steps to reassemble it. It's very easy.

If that doesn't do it, you'll have to reprogram the remote. And lastly.... you have 7 seconds to insert the ignition key and turn it to Accessory, from the time you open your door, before the alarm goes off. You could disable the alarm until you get the problem fixed, directions are in the owners manual.

This works too, but I don't even have to take it off the key ring to take it apart. Just find the groove and use the door/trunk key to pry them apart. Works like a charm
